Introduction
The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/C variant, colloquially known as the Close Quarters Battle (CQB) armor, is a variant of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor manufactured by Beweglichkeitsrüstungsysteme.
The CQB Armour is a variant of the standard Mark VI MJOLNIR powered assault armour. It is a default armor permutation in Halo 3 multiplayer. Bungie has confirmed all of the armor permutations have no effect on game play.

Development and History
GEN1 overview
The MJOLNIR Mark C variant was developed and tested at UNSC Beweglichrüstungsysteme facility in Essen, Deutschland (Germany) and Songnam, Hanguk respectively, integrating both feedback and testing gathered from the Jericho VII theater. The intent of the MJOLNIR Mark VI Powered Assault Armour/C variant was to improve survivability in close combat, specifically by looking at alternate methods of K dispersal and improving joint mobility.
Design details
The CQB variant specializes in the improvement of survivability in close quarters engagements, this was done in the dispersal of kinetic energy, by looking at alternate methods to disperse the kinetic energy versus momentum transferred by a Spartan during combat. In addition the CQB's armor components are designed to optimize joint mobility in close quarters, and have an improved field of view.

Characteristics
Although CQB surpasses CQC in overall integration, the variant's ability to allow ad hoc modifications is limited in comparison. The helmet is compatible with the FARNDALE Command Network Module, the STARLIGHT and PZY-955SSA WILLOW remote sensors and the Type C1 UA module.
Helmet Characteristics
The helmet is very different then the Mark VI. It features a roughly "T" shaped visor with two large cheek guards. The top of the helmet is protected by black alloy that forces a protective brace on top. It somewhat resembles ancient Greek or Roman helmets- the shape of the visor is especially similar, and the cross brace loosely resembles the crest on a helmet.

Shoulder Characteristics
<gallery class=center>
The shoulder pads are significantly lower than that of the standard Mark VI armor. They consist of a rectangular, slightly bent metal plate that is attached approximately where the deltoids, biceps brachii, and brachialis muscles converge. In actual combat, this would greatly improve the ease at which a SPARTAN-II moves the arms for close quarters combat, but expose the shoulders to greater damage.

Because of the unique and large design, many players use it to show off their emblem- the popular machinima Spriggs does this with the majority of its characters. The shoulder pads appear similar to that of the ODST troops in the Halo 3 concept art on the Halo 3 Zune.

Chest Characteristics
Usage
Like in most other MJOLNIR variants, the chest plate seems to be a plate of alloy attached to the already existing Mark VI armor underneath. It consists of an additional set of four plates fused together in the body, and a tubular object at the bottom part of the chest plate which could either be a handle or some sort of canister due to its shape. There is an unusable Combat Knife on the plate as well in a built-in sheath. In early development, the outer part of the chest piece was part of the secondary color group. Why this was changed is unknown. Because of the knife, most people use this chest piece.
The CQB armor was used successfully throughout 2552.

The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/C variant, colloquially known as the Close Quarters Battle (CQB) armor, is a variant of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor manufactured by Beweglichkeitsrüstungsysteme.[1][2][3][4]

GEN1 overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The CQB variant specializes in the improvement of survivability in close quarters engagements, this was done in the dispersal of kinetic energy, by looking at alternate methods to disperse the kinetic energy versus momentum transferred by a Spartan during combat. In addition the CQB's armor components are designed to optimize joint mobility in close quarters, and have an improved field of view.[1][2][3][8]

Although CQB surpasses CQC in overall integration, the variant's ability to allow ad hoc modifications is limited in comparison.[1][9] The helmet is compatible with the AN/PCK-221 FARNDALE Command Network Module, the AN/PZY-990T STARLIGHT and PZY-955SSA WILLOW remote sensors and the Type C1 UA module.

Development history[edit]

As early as 2525 developmental Mjolnir permutations utilized physical architecture that would eventually be used for CQB.[10][11] Samuel-034 used such a variant during the Battle of Chi Ceti[12] and Daisy-023 used a similar variant.[13]

When evaluating different opportunities to improve MJOLNIR across an assortment of engagement types, German-based Beweglichkeitsrüstungsysteme proposed two distinctive variants CQC and CQB with one focus. Using data gathered from the UNSC's campaign on Jericho VII, that focus was to further improve the survivability in close quarter engagements.[1][2][3][4][5][9][14]

Field-tested at the Special Warfare Center Essen, in Deutschland, and integrating feedback gathered from the Special Warfare Center Seongnam, in Korea, CQB was ultimately launched as a successor to CQC[15] on the Mark V platform.[1][3] Its advances were eventually incorporated into the Mark VI series.[1][3][4][5]

By 2558, the GEN1 CQB helmet could be requisitioned by Spartans for use with their GEN2 Mjolnir suits.[6] As late as 2560, the GEN1 CQB helmet could still be requisitioned by Spartans, upgraded to be roughly equivalent to GEN3.[16]

Usage[edit]

The CQB armor was used successfully throughout 2552.[1]

In-game information[edit]

Halo: Reach - Mark V GEN1[edit]

The CQB helmet is available as an unlockable helmet armor permutation in Halo: Reach. Alongside the Military Police helmet and UA/Base Security [W] chest, it cannot be unlocked in Halo: Reach through regular in-game means. Instead, it is unlocked by completing achievements for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST and career milestones on Halo Waypoint. Following the shutdown of Xbox 360 Halo online services in December 2021, this achievement will no longer be attainable.[17]

The helmet is unlockable as part of Season 1: Noble in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
