Type:

HELLCAT-class Mjolnir is a variant of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor manufactured by Watershed Division.[2][1]

GEN2 overview[edit]

Development history[edit]

The GEN2 Hellcat armor was designed using artifacts from humanity's prehistoric interstellar empire, mostly collected by the Office of Naval Intelligence from ruins of a dead world and the vault of a shattered starship, presumably the ancient human cruiser found at Site Yankee-002-G3, documented in ONI XENO-MATERIALS EXPLOITATION REPORT 15Y1198, and assigned to Project ARC DREAM. Spartan-IIs testing the armor showed near-perfect synchronization with the armor, though compatible Spartan-IV operators required an acclimatization period and tweaks to their augmentation maintenance before deployment.[2]

Mark IV overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The Hellcat helmet and associated armor components are compatible with the upgraded Mark IV MJOLNIR platform. The Hellcat helmet and its black-box neural interface are remarkably compatible with Spartan physiology,[3] and the helmet was designed with the capability to interface with the Marauder's Sigil module which includes a target acquisition system adept at detecting and eliminating Forerunner-derived electronic countermeasures.[4]

Development history[edit]

Because of the danger and unpredictability inherent of researching and reverse-engineering Forerunner technology, the Office of Naval Intelligence has accelerated the development of Hellcat armor and other technologies derived from other, more exotic, sources.[5] Hellcat armor was designed and manufactured by ONI's Watershed Division using an amalgamation of recovered ancient technology and breakthroughs in materials engineering procured with Project ARC DREAM.[3] Alongside the development of the Hellcat armor, the Project GABRIEL utility acts as a testbed for exotic systems interlink and munitions programmer supporting weapons research associated with Project ARC DREAM.[6] Still in the process of being reverse-engineered by Watershed Division, the Modulated Instrument wrist-mounted device associated with the Hellcat armor suite is, in theory, analogous to a Forerunner tool-weapon hardlight projector.[7]

In-game information[edit]

Halo 5: Guardians[edit]

Hellcat would be among the launch-era armor that was first introduced in Halo 5: Guardians as an armor permutation unlockable via the Requisition system. The Hellcat set has two alternate skin designs: Marauder and Onslaught.

Production notes[edit]

Internally, during the armor's development for Halo 5: Guardians, Hellcat was known by the codename "A084", with the in-game model produced by Airborn Studios.[8] The armor's original design was created by 343 Industries concept artist Kory Lynn Hubbel, in conjunction with fan Andrew Thivyanathan, who had won a contest with the charity Child's Play to design a set of armor for the game. Thivyanathan wanted to base the armor on that worn by Ancestor soldiers, and the two worked to come up with a design based on the armor seen in Halo 4's terminals. Thivyanathan was also featured in-game as the character Andrew Thivyanathan, a de-glasser working on Meridian.[9][10] The Hellcat variant later featured in Halo Infinite possesses an attachment dubbed the "Marauder's Sigil", which was designed to closely mirror the depiction of the Ancestor soldier armor seen in Halo 4's terminals.[11]
