This article is about the commando armor from Halo: Reach and Halo 4. Were you looking for the commando harness from Halo 3?

Template:Armor Infobox The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/K variant, also known as the Commando armor, is a variant of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor that was designed for special operations.[1]

Development history

GEN1

The K variant was developed at the Special Warfare Center in Seongnam, United Korea, to aid Spartan supersoldiers in specialized assaults on conventional military targets. When production for the K variant was approved, Chalybs Defense Solutions was awarded the contract to manufacture the armor, with final testing conducted at the Chalybs Testing Preserve.[2] The Mark IV version, which was simply a modification to the MJOLNIR suit rather than a distinct variant, was first deployed during the siege of the Inner Colonies relatively late in the Human-Covenant War.[2][note 1] The Mark V[B] version was introduced near the end of the war in November 2551. Unlike the previous iteration, the Mark V version was designed as a fully featured variant of the Mark V system.[2]

GEN2

Template:Article Quote Naphtali Contractor Corporation began production of the GEN2 of the Commando armor. NCC's version includes a helmet, torso armor, and shoulder pauldrons. The GEN2/K variant is loosely based on its GEN1 predecessor.[4] Though the GEN2 COMMANDO-class suite only vaguely resembles its Mark V predecessor, the GEN2 NOBLE-class Mjolnir is a recreation of the Mark V/K's external architecture.[5]

The GEN2 Commando is a brand new design fitted with high-capacity energy banks for extended tactical package usage. Though in 2555, while marketed on the excellent reputation of the original GEN1 version, the new design still had to prove itself.[6]

Also in 2555 the armor was tested on Anvil Station.

Design

The K variant's helmet is designed to improve a Spartan's tactical awareness, without the use of the modular packages that can be added to the MJOLNIR platform. The Commando helmet package includes the most comprehensive, up-to-date tactical hardware and software systems.[2] The variant's shoulder pauldrons offer excellent protection at the cost of limited joint mobility. The field support attachment provides additional functionality to the MJOLNIR armor.[2]

Note

  1. ^ In Birth of a Spartan Carter-A259's Mark IV/K prototype is identical to the Mark V version that he used later in the war, despite The Essential Visual Guide stating that that the Mark IV/K was an ad hoc modification of the contemporary Mark IV suit. Frank O'Connor has stated that this suit was a prototype that was still being researched and did not see deployment for some time.
