Summary

Chill Out, is a multiplayer map in Halo: Combat Evolved. It's considered the best map for 2v2 and 1v1. Based on a floor of steaming nitrogen and Covenant-made rooms, it is an extremely varied map and not symmetrical, providing a very good, multi player experience.

This map is both for Xbox and PC/Mac. The level does not have any bases, as they are rooms. It is a very closed in map, making great combat with minimal people. With the unique bridge and varied symmetry, Chill Out is unique CTF map, as one team usually does more defense than the other.

As a special announcement for [MLG] San Diego, plans were unveiled by Lukems and Shishka to remake Chill Out for Halo 3. The remake is now known as Cold Storage. The map is also a copy of the mission on board the covenant ship where captain keyes is descovered inside the brain flood on halo:CE.

Combat

Regular Weapon Locations

Strategic Points

  • The Bridge (Recognized by a split into two sections, leading out from each base)
  • Ladders (Leading out from doorways providing overviews of courtyard areas)
  • The Window (See upper right side of the above picture) (The large, elevated open 'window' that overlooks both large connected rooms. With some skill, you can jump onto this from the ledge that spawns the Rocket Launcher. This 'window' is very thin and you can easily fall off. You will also be very visible with no cover if someone knows what you are doing. If they do not, however, you have free range to shoot any unsuspecting players on the ground, anyone on the bridge, and even fire on people coming out of the elevated hallway from the teleporter.

Recommended Game types

  • 16 players (minimum of 12)
  • Rockets Although the game becomes really hard for the reds to play if the game is CTF, because blue's can simply come over the bridge and shoot right into the red base, causing one to die even before they get a chance to walk away.
  • Oddball
  • Team Slayer Fight for the bridge.
  • CTF Extremely fast paced.

Trivia

  • This map could have been an attacked Covenant structure, evident by the destroyed paths and walls and all the mist on the floor.
  • This map could also be a Covenant Facility under construction, or a pre-existing Covenant Research Facility. This is because there are silver pillars that are hung off the ground by what looks to be purple machines. There is also Covenant circuitry, found throughout the map.
