Type:

MJOLNIR (GEN2)

Role(s):

Stealth operations

SHINOBI-class Mjolnir is an armor compatible with MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor (GEN2).[1]

Overview

Specifications

Despite its origin, the shoulder pauldrons are compatible with other armor sets.[2]

Discovery and research

Discovered aboard a derelict freighter of unknown origin at Lacaille 9352, the armor has no known manufacturer or intended user. The UNSC Navy's Office of Naval Intelligence continues to probe the recovered suits in an attempt to unlock what appears to be several levels of restricted functionality. SHINOBI's core systems remain cryptic "black boxes" to analysts, though ONI was successful in integrating the SHINOBI helmet with standard GEN2 Mjolnir techsuits and Spartan neural interfaces. Though aware of the inherent risks involved, ONI has authorized limited testing of the SHINOBI armor for a select few classified Spartan-IV operatives.[1][3]

Usage

Spartan Tom-B292 used the GEN2 Shinobi armor in 2558.[4]

In-game information

Halo 5: Guardians

Shinobi was first introduced as an armor set in Halo 5: Guardians in the Battle of Shadow and Light update.[5] The Shinobi set has one alternate skin design, Heartless - implemented in the Hammer Storm update.

Production notes

The Shinobi armour was created by the Berlin-based outsource studio Airborn Studios.[6] Internally, the armour was known by the codename A086 during development.[7][8]

In development, the armour was considered a spiritual successor to Halo 3's Hayabusa armour.[9]

Trivia

  • A Shinobi or Ninja was a covert agent or mercenary warrior in feudal Japan.
