Remote sensor

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

The remote sensor (RS) is an external helmet attachment compatible with helmet variants of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor.[1][2]

Overview

The device could be integrated with a Hardened Uplink module into a hardened uplink/remote sensor package.

Known modules

The remote sensor has multiple observed modules, each with its own distinct physical appearance.

AN/PZY-990T STARLIGHT

The AN/PZY-990T STARLIGHT optical sensors integrates directly with Mjolnir VISR drivers and intelligence analysis systems to provide real-time situation updates to commanders.[3][Note 1] It resembles a camera, and is typically worn on the right side of the helmet.

PZY-955SSA WILLOW

Manufactured by Chalybs Defense Solutions and compatible with the CH252 helmet, the PZY-955SSA WILLOW remote sensor is dependable and natively compatible with older UNSC and CMA encoding formats.[5][Note 2] It is typically worn on the right side of the helmet. It can be employed alongside a Command Network Module or a CBRN module.[6][7] They may be used to locate and designate targets for MQ-96 Support Drones and supporting scout-snipers.[8][9]

Although it was previously available only to Beta-5 security teams and select Army rapid-reaction forces,[10] it was also employed by Orbital Drop Shock Troopers during Fall of Reach.[11] By 2558, its use was adopted by Spartan-IV personnel employing the Military Police helmet, which also employs an integrated Command Network Module.[10] One such unit is operated by the ODST Corporal Chloe Turpin, as part of the operating forces of UNSC Spirit of Fire. Turpin uses her WILLOW sensor to designate targets for Sunray 1-1's support drone Hank and sniper Devon Sparks.[8]

SABERTOOTH

The SABERTOOTH was developed by Lethbridge Industrial as a new third-generation of remote sensing device to feed newly trained battle management smart AIs.[12] The SABERTOOTH module has been observed to be compatible exclusively with the ANUBIS-class Mjolnir helmet, which was also manufactured by Lethbridge Industrial.

In-game information

The remote sensor serves as a cosmetic option and has no impact on gameplay.

Halo: Reach

There are two RS modules available as attachments on several helmets in the armor permutations of Halo: Reach. The device is priced at different levels of Credits, depending on the base helmets. In Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the same RS-attached helmets are unlockable in Season 1: Noble.

Halo 2: Anniversary

The STARLIGHT remote sensor is available for use in the multiplayer component of Halo 2: Anniversary as a helmet variant - introduced and unlockable in Series 9. The attachment is present on the Breach Scout helmet variant, and is present attached onto the side of the Mark VI helmet among other upgrades.

Halo Infinite

RS attachments are available as customization options in Halo Infinite. The release of Halo Infinite was accompanied by a series of retcons, with a CNM being re-designated into the TAC/RS/STARLIGHT attachment, and a module that was previously known as the HU/RS package being re-designated into the TAC/RS/WILLOW attachment. The TAC/RS/STARLIGHT and TAC/RS/WILLOW attachments are the only known helmet attachments categorized under the TAC category of armor accessories.
