The Last Stand is the fifth mission of Halo: Spartan Assault.
Introduction[edit]
Within an hour of their arrival at X50, the Covenant owned the moon. But despite the ferocity of the assault on X50, the UNSC base on Draetheus-V had no idea anything was afoot because the planet's unique magnetic resonance frequently made off-world communication nearly impossible.
While Spartan Davis fought to hold the line on X50, Spartan Palmer executed the plan to depart to Draetheus-V and warn them of the inevitable Covenant invasion of the colony. Palmer ordered Marines in the area to fall back to the Hornet landing zones. Only 6 marines made it there alive. They held out against an overwhelming Covenant force until Palmer managed to escape.
Objectives[edit]
Survive until the Hornet arrives[edit]
Spartan Palmer and several UNSC Marines are situated at a UNSC airfield base, with an AV-14 Hornet arriving in three minutes and thirty seconds. The base houses numerous bunkers, explosive barrels, and several stationary machine guns. While waiting for the Hornet, Palmer and the Marines are attacked by numerous Unggoy Minors from the west side of the base. While Palmer continues to fend off the attacking Covenant forces, more Unggoy begin to attack from the south and east sides of the base as well. The Unggoy from the west side are now led by Unggoy Majors. Several of the surviving Marines begin to man machine guns to aid the Spartan.
Approximately two minutes before the Hornet arrives, Palmer and the Marines are attacked by larger waves of Unggoy, now led by Sangheili Minors. However, the Spartan and remaining Marines successfully hold their ground against the large amount of Covenant forces. A minute before the Hornet arrives, a Zurdo-pattern Wraith appears south of the base and attacks the Spartan. Meanwhile, a large amount of Sangheili and Unggoy forces began to besiege the facility. However, with the help of the Marines, Palmer succeeds in eliminating the attacking forces. Directly before the Hornet arrives, a second Wraith attacks the facility, along with a larger wave of Covenant forces.
Board the Hornet[edit]
The Hornet finally arrives and lands on the center platform within the air base. With an overwhelming amount of Covenant forces attacking the facility, Palmer and any surviving Marines are given thirty seconds to make their way to the Hornet before it is forced to leave. Killing as many Covenant soldiers as she can, Palmer makes her way to the Hornet and sits on the landing skids. As her Hornet departs, a second Hornet arrives to pick up the surviving Marines that could not make it onto the first Hornet.
Notes[edit]
- ^ Roland was activated on December 5, 2557. The events of Halo: Spartan Strike also takes place during 2557, as shown by the introductory cutscene of Operation A: Orphic Spear. Being a sequel to Halo: Spartan Assault it is implied (although not confirmed) that the present day events of Spartan Strike take place after those of Spartan Assault.
