Season 2[edit]

Story[edit]

The Story So Far
Cortana’s dominion has ended, but the merciless forces of the Banished have rushed in to fill the void, decimating all who stand in their way. Spartan Commander Agryna has enlisted a new generation of Spartans and is preparing them to face the Banished—and perhaps even more dangerous foes. But a few scattered Spartans remain in the field. These Spartans are rugged and resourceful. Hunters in the dark. Lone wolves.

LV106: According to the breach logs, the intrusion package was cycling an internally sourced encryption, but the retrieval signature was Jiralhanae.

LV038: I'm not surprised. Expanding our neural matrix donor pool beyond humanity was always going to draw some attention eventually. Knowing what they took, it makes complete sense.

LV106: That project was a walled garden. No one on the outside should have even known about it.

LV038: Looks like we overestimated the strength of those walls.

LV106: What would the Banished be able to do with our tech? How would they even kno--

LV038: I don't know. Nobody does. And that's what scares me the most.

RE: Nine lives?

Jun,

I took your advice about those reports. Problem is, there are several—and they don’t exactly line up. Take ITEM/466F41.LV for example, which has you crossing paths with elements of WHITE GLOVE. It notes here the loss of several personnel to a Hunter pair and squad of SpecOps Sangheili, but somehow Charlie Hotel was still able to complete her objectives at CASTLE. Of course, Covenant artillery and orbital impacts in that area make some of these details seem… debatable at best. But a second report has you rendezvous with Beta-Red for an exfil run that only shows up on a few random manifests. And the other account I pulled honestly seems too absurd to even entertain, but I can send it along anyway if you’re interested in the comedic value.

RE: Operation: INTERIOR EXILE

Initial field reports are in from agents Dinh and Padraig and the initial insertion went about as well as we expected. The lead drop onto [REDACTED] went smoothly enough, but conflicting recon assessments for ingress put all three main squads in a compromised position. Just as we feared, there was enemy activity already at the dormant vessel site; casualty reports indicate that it’s definitely going to take a larger force to drive them off and begin facility construction.

From the looks of things, they should have listened to Dinh from the very beginning—we might want to consider accelerating other avenues to put him in a position to have a greater impact. As far as this particular site goes, I’m putting the final touches on an expanded requisition request to try and secure it while we can. Letting these artifacts fall into enemy hands is not an option.

GOING VIRAL

But there is so much more to see!

The entire history of the Spartan program. Your weaknesses. Your failures. And now all of it belongs to the Banished!

Oh, I shall enjoy every moment of its categorization. So much of your strength is tied to the armor you wear like a second skin. What happens when it is taken away? No... what happens when it is turned against you?

And so many of you here—ah, survivors of the Apparition's burning wrath, are you? A new generation of heroes to forge a brighter future for your kind. Such delicious naivety!

Know this as you struggle in vain against the inevitable: I shall see you ALL unravel in body and spirit. I shall disseminate every secret held within this facility and within your minds. And the Banished shall feast upon what remains.

Take a look in the mirror, my little Spartans. Thralls of Iratus. Think how much better you're going to look wearing my face.

Trivia[edit]

  • According to Alex Wakeford, the team involved with the creation of the intel was tempted to name Season 3's third intel "HEX APPEAL" rather than "REVERSE ENGINEERING," in reference to the Forerunner hexagonal building blocks described in the intel and as a play on the common phrase, "sex appeal."[1]
