The '''Assault Rifle''' is an automatic weapon that has appeared in many ''[[Halo (disambiguation)|Halo]]'' video games.


This [[UNSC]] rifle is gas-operated and magazine-fed. It fires 7.62mm armor-piercing rounds. Rate of fire is limited by a soldier's ability to aim, fire and change magazines. Short, controlled bursts are more accurate than fully automatic fire. The MA5B's integrated computer displays rounds left in the magazine and the relative direction of the gas giant, [[Threshold]], for point of reference. This feature is particularly useful for orienting you in areas where it's easy to get turned around and lose your sense of direction.

This weapon can utilize varying types of ammunition, including "shredder" rounds (for lightly-armored infantry), and armor-piercing HE rounds (for moderately, and heavily armored infantry). This weapons also includes a built-in flashlight for low-light situations. Slightly modified versions of the MA5B's barrel can be made to support a silencer for covert missions where both power, and discretion is required.

The MA5B Rifle is the latest model of the MA series. The MA3, and MA2Bs were the standard rifles in 2525, but the newest model, the MA5B, is the current standard [[Marine]] rifle, and is one of the most versitile weapons in the Marine's arsenal.

The Longshot variant of the MA40 assault rifle has increased precision capabilities, raising its performance at long-range. It has additional yellow coloration on certain components, including the ammunition counter, the charging handle, and the magazine. Despite the name and increased ranged performance, the rifle does not appear to employ a [[Longshot sight]].
 
In campaign, the MA40 Longshot is a [[Legendary variant weapons|legendary weapon]] awarded to the player in the [[Forward Operating Base]] progression system upon reaching 2,300 [[Valor]]. The weapon can then be acquired at any Forward Operating Base. It has a reduced magazine size from 36 to 25, though it has increased accuracy, much greater damage (killing a fully-shielded Spartan with 15 rounds instead of 20 rounds), and is capable of dealing headshot damage.
 
In multiplayer, when players pick up or spawn with the MA40 Longshot, their [[Weapon customization|customization options]] are automatically applied to the weapon model, and the unique appearance of the MA40 Longshot is lost.

The Assault Rifle is unlocked at 400 Valor and once unlocked can be summoned at any FOB in the campaign.[9]

Variants[edit]

Longshot Assault Rifle[edit]

The Longshot variant of the MA40 assault rifle has increased precision capabilities, raising its performance at long-range. It has additional yellow coloration on certain components, including the ammunition counter, the charging handle, and the magazine. Despite the name and increased ranged performance, the rifle does not appear to employ a Longshot sight.

In campaign, the MA40 Longshot is a legendary weapon awarded to the player in the Forward Operating Base progression system upon reaching 2,300 Valor. The weapon can then be acquired at any Forward Operating Base. It has a reduced magazine size from 36 to 25, though it has increased accuracy, much greater damage (killing a fully-shielded Spartan with 15 rounds instead of 20 rounds), and is capable of dealing headshot damage.

In multiplayer, when players pick up or spawn with the MA40 Longshot, their customization options are automatically applied to the weapon model, and the unique appearance of the MA40 Longshot is lost.

Changes from Halo Infinite to Season 2: Lone Wolves[edit]

  • Melee damage has been reduced by 10% in both multiplayer and campaign.
