A render of the CAR-class frigate modelled by Jared Harris for the fan mod Sins of the Prophets - used in the 2022 Halo Encyclopedia.
An Ester-pattern armored frigate.

Frigates are a type of small-medium tonnage warship utilised by the now-defunct navy of the Covenant empire, and its many remnants.

Classes[edit]

Class Image Size Details
A'uzr-pattern sword frigate Illustration for the A'uzr-pattern sword frigate, based on an old concept piece for the Ceudar-pattern heavy corvette done by Glenn Israel. The colouration and additional modifications were done by 343 artist Salvatorre Yazzie. 860.0 meters (2,821.5 ft)[1] (length) Alternatively referred to as "command frigates",[2] the A'uzr-pattern (UNSC three-letter classification: SCC-class sword frigate) is a class of warship used by the Covenant to command flotillas of smaller warships. They have much in common with the Ceudar-pattern heavy corvettes of the empire, and have been prominently used by the Swords of Sanghelios. They have a stacked hull,[3][4] and are one of several design pattern variants under the SCC-class heading.[1]
Ester-pattern armored frigate A render of the CAR-class frigate modelled by Jared Harris for the fan mod Sins of the Prophets - used in the 2022 Halo Encyclopedia. 1,000 meters (3,280 ft)[5] (length) The Ester-pattern (UNSC three-letter classification: CAR-class armored frigate) is a class of warship used by the Covenant to patrol territory and mop-up operations of devastated worlds after the main force has moved on.
Unidentified class (Radiant Arrow) 550 meters (1,800 ft) (length)[6]
110 meters (361 ft) (width)[6]
110 meters (361 ft) (height)[6]
This unidentified vessel is much smaller than the aforementioned frigate examples. It has a teardrop-shaped profile, with a long, tapering tail that curls up into an open hook. It has at least one hangar bay, which is mounted on the frigate's belly, which was built in an oblong shape that was twenty metres wide and thirty metres deep. It can accommodate at least five Elsedda-pattern Banshees. One such example, Radiant Arrow, served as part of the Fleet of Inexorable Obedience in 2526.[6]
Unidentified light frigate class[Note 1] (Steadfast Strike) Width less than 400 meters (1,300 ft) (the width of UNSC Phyllis Wheatley's salvage bay)[7] This unidentified vessel is shaped like a "long-necked disk", with a dovetail stern. It carried multiple weapon systems including secondary pulse laser turrets and a primary unknown weapon system. The frigate also carried a self-destruct system. One such vessel, Steadfast Strike, was part of the Flotilla of Unsung Piety.[8]
Unidentified heavy frigate (Great Light) An unspecified heavy frigate classification, with the only known example Great Light used by the Keepers of the One Freedom as their flagship during the operation on Reach in 2559.[9] Given the lack of described characteristics, this heavy frigate may correspond with one of the unspecified frigate examples listed above.

Known frigates[edit]

List of appearances[edit]

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ As noted in Chapter 4 of Halo: Oblivion, the designation of "light frigate" is based on how the UNSC would classify Covenant vessels; it is unclear whether the Covenant would recognise Steadfast Strike as such a ship.
