Anvil air-to-surface missile
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Anvil air-to-surface missiles (ASMs) are a kind of high-explosive guided ground-attack munition used by the aircraft of the United Nations Space Command and Colonial Military Authority.[2]
Variants[edit]
Anvil-II[edit]
Anvil-II missiles are one of the most common of the Anvil missile family. They are used aboard several dropships widely used through the UNSC to provide support for infantry on the ground,[1][3] though may also be used to attack air targets such as Sentinels.[4] These include:
- D77 Pelican - 2x Anvil-II missile pods mounted onto a pylon on the wings.[5] Pods can have configurations with eight[6] or sixteen missiles.[2]
- D77H Pelican - 2x Anvil-II missile pods integrated into the wing.[5] containing six missiles each.[7]
- G77S Pelican - 2x Anvil-II missile pods mounted on the gunship's dorsal surface, containing four missiles.[8]
- D102 Owl - 2x Anvil-II missile pods mounted into a pylon on the wings.[5]
Anvil-III[edit]
A single pod of Anvil-III missiles are carried aboard a Shearwater aerodyne.[9]
Anvil-IV[edit]
Two banks of four Anvil-IV missiles are carried aboard the AC-220 Vulture gunship. The missiles are stored in A-74 Sylver Vertical Missile Launchers atop the craft's dorsal surface and fired in large barrages to conduct saturation attacks against ground targets in a 360-degree radius around the craft.[10][11] They are one of a number of munitions that can be housed in the A-74 silos, others including the Phoenix missile.[12]
