Corporal Harland is a veteran Marine who assumed tactical command during the lopsided Battle of Sigma Octanus IV after his superior and commanding officers were wiped out by opposing Covenant forces. Harland and three members of his squad, Private Fincher, Private Cochran, and Private Walker encountered Covenant Hunters and after realizing that "Bravo" base and the surrounding area was destroyed by the Covenant, they narrowly won a retreating fight against two Banshees.
