Site Ricochet is a location on Installation 00, a Forerunner megastructure situated outside of the Milky Way. The location is the site of numerous crashed Covenant cruisers downed during the space combat between the Covenant and the separatist-United Nations Space Command alliance in the final battle of the Human-Covenant War in 2552.[1][2]

During the Second Ark Conflict of 2559, the Banished sought to establish a salvage outpost at the site, even despite the presence of the heavy scarring of the landscape. When pointed out by Jato 'Ratum and the Unggoy contingent of the expedition on May 21 of that year,[2] the Jiralhanae leaders of the operation dismissed the concerns of their underlings - merely considering any hunches to be fear of the "ghosts of the old war". Once they began to deploy their harvesters and power extractors, a Forerunner defensive construct awoke from under the landscape and began to fire upon the Banished forces.[1][2]

At this time, the site had also been earmarked by UNSC Spirit of Fire forces as a potential site of interest, and the Firestorm Battle Group deployed by Captain James Cutter to scout the area to determine whether it would necessitate a dedicated assault force. The UNSC expedition was led by Lieutenant Colonel Morgan Kinsano, consisting of numerous M12F Flame Warthogs, M808S Scorpions, and AV-14 Hornets - including scout teams Nawal and Wajikol. The team arrived at the site in time to observe the Forerunner construct's awakening, and watched as it fired upon the Banished forces - leaving all but the Sangheili Jato 'Ratum dead. Kinsano reported that the site would not be of use to either the Banished or UNSC forces on the Ark, and was thus recalled to Echo Base due to incoming intel reports of a Banished attack on Fort Jordan.[2]

Jato 'Ratum successfully escaped Site Ricochet to report his findings to Banished commanders on the Ark,[1] and was ultimately one of the few chosen to join Atriox's Exodus Guard to escort the Warmaster back to Reach. During the Battle for Zeta Halo, 'Ratum noted that Forerunner megastructures were prone to house defenders beneath their surface.[3]

Trivia[edit]

Site Ricochet is the in-universe location of the Halo Wars 2 multiplayer map Sentry. The site name is in itself a reference to the early in-development name for Sentry, which was called Ricochet up until the Halo Wars 2 Open Beta.[4]
