Corporal Chloe Turpin[3] is an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper in the UNSC Marine Corps. She is the designated drone controller of Boomerang Company, assigned to the UNSC Spirit of Fire,[1][2] and utilizes a personal drone nicknamed "Hank".[4]

Biography[edit]

Turpin was present on the modified Phoenix-class colony ship, Spirit of Fire, on February 4, 2531 when it arrived at the Outer Colony of Harvest to fight the Covenant's Fleet of Glorious Interdiction there. She then went on to witness the Battle for Arcadia and the fight between the UNSC crew and the Fleet of Glorious Interdiction within the Forerunner shield world known as Trove. After the ship's Shaw-Fujikawa translight engine was sacrificed to destroy the shield world, Turpin entered cryostasis along with the other survivors.

Over twenty-eight years later, she and everyone else were awakened to find themselves drifting above the extragalactic Installation 00, also known as the Ark. There, the vessel's forces were forced to contend with the Banished, a heavily-armed faction of ex-Covenant that sought to control the Ark largely due to its capacity for producing Halo superweapons. After the departure of a newly-created Halo ring put it beyond the Banished's grasp on April 2, 2559, the Mgalekgolo pair known as Colony hatched a plot which James Cutter, captain of the Spirit of Fire, had no choice but to respond to. Turpin was attached to Sunray 1-1, which was tasked with stopping Colony's scheme as part of Operation: SPEARBREAKER. She was accompanied on this mission by Major Elijah Vaughan, Warrant Officer Alannah Quinn, Petty Officer Helena Gruss, and Lance Corporal Devon Sparks.[1][2]

Turpin later joined Sunray in an assassination of a Banished Chieftain in the weeks following SPEARBREAKER. After looting the base, the team stopped off at Quebec Base for some downtime, enjoying the spoils of their fight; some Thorn Beast meat stolen from the base. During the evening, Turpin joined Sunray in recounting to their Marine comrades the tale of Sparks' killshot - making note of her own contributions to intelligence gathering as a drone controller.[3]

Personality and traits[edit]

Turpin wishes for nothing more than a life of glorious anonymity, rather than a career filled with fateful encounters. When she was assigned to Boomerang Company, the rest of its ODSTs were nervous, as her reputation for dragging fellow Marines into perilous adventure is well known among the Spirit of Fire's crew and troops. As the squad prepared to deploy for a routine recon mission on the Ark's surface, Turpin crossed her fingers that nothing of interest or importance would transpire.[1][2]

Turpin is also noted to swell with pride when discussing Hank, the support drone that she operates.[3]

Equipment[edit]

As the designated drone operator for Boomerang Company, Turpin most notably employs a personal MQ-96 Support Drone nicknamed "Hank" for providing reconnaissance and limited air support thanks to a high-energy laser weapon designed by Isabel. She controls the drone via a wrist-mounted MC5 Individual Data/Net Terminal, alongside a helmet-mounted remote sensor equipped on the left side of her ODST helmet; this sensor is used to designate targets for both the MQ-96 drone and Devon Sparks - Sunray 1-1's sharpshooter.[4] Turpin additionally carries the squad's UNSC battle network relay in a module on her backpack.[2]

Turpin's ODST assault armour itself reflects her recent assignment to Sunray - lacking the specific Sunray patch heralded by the rest of the unit, but instead displaying the insignia of Spirit of Fire itself.[4] Outside of her drone's laser weapon, Turpin carries an M6C/SOCOM handgun in a holster on her right thigh and an M7S SMG for combat operations.[4][5]

Cursed with always being the right woman at the right place at the right time, Turpin wishes for nothing more than a life of glorious anonymity, rather than a life filled with fateful encounters. Turpin's recent assignment to the command squad has the rest of Boomerang Company nervous, as her reputation for dragging fellow Marines into perilous adventure is well known among the Spirit of Fire's crew and troops. As the squad prepares to deploy for a routine recon mission on the Ark's surface, Turpin crosses her fingers that nothing of interest or importance will transpire, just this once.
