Charlie Company was a United Nations Space Command Marine unit stationed on Reach. The company was divided into two subordinate units, Gamma 1 and Gamma 5, under command of First Lieutenants Jake Chapman and Buckman, respectively.[1]

Fall of Reach[edit]

During the Fall of Reach, Charlie Company was ordered by Admiral Whitcomb to get the Nova bombs, weapons so powerful that they could turn the tides in space battles and had enough explosive energy to destroy whole planets.[2] However, they were attacked by the Covenant before they could use the bombs. The surviving Marines held off the enemy for more than an hour with Warthogs, Scorpions, and turrets.[2] Lieutenant Jake Chapman, also known as Gamma 1, was ordered to send the majority of his force in an attempt to flank the enemy. Under attack, he called for air support. By the time Frederic-104 and Red Team arrived, the forest they passed through had been leveled by UNSC bombers, and he assumed Buckman had been killed. In fact, Chapman and most of his men survived, and fell back to Facility Alpha 331 to join Gamma 5. En route, they attracted the attention of two Covenant armored divisions that began to attack the facility.[3] The arrival of SPARTAN-II team Beta Red held off the enemy long enough for Buckman to get his surviving men evacuated.[4]
A number of Marines were left behind by Chapman, and were later found by Joshua-029, Kelly-087, Frederic-104, and the remaining Spartans. After telling Chief Petty Officer Frederic-104 about their battle, they were ordered to reach a rendezvous point in two Warthogs with the six wounded SPARTANs, forming Team Delta. They were separated from the rest of William-043's team and lost contact. Most of the survivors are likely dead either by the Covenant, or from the eventual glassing of Reach but at least one Marine survived.[5]
