The Dreadnaught docked at the Portal to the Ark

Background

The Forerunner Dreadnaught was built by the Forerunners as part of their plan to activate the Halo rings. The ship itself has a design common to all Forerunner constructs: It is very geometric and angular, with no apparent rounded surfaces. The vertically-traveling ship is estimated to be fourteen kilometers tall, and is capable of Slipspace travel.[1] The ship once powered all of High Charity.[2]

Role in Story

The Forerunner Dreadnaught served as High Charity's power source until the Flood attacked the city. At that time, Master Chief was on his way to stop the Prophet of Truth from escaping. At the end of Halo 2, he was able to board the ship as Truth uncoupled it from the city's power grid and left for Earth. Upon its arrival at Earth, Lord Hood gave the order to destroy it, but rescinded his decision when he found out that the Master Chief was onboard.

The Dreadnaught then landed in Africa.

Specifically, the ship landed in the center of the Portal to the Ark. During the Portal's activation process, Lord Hood ordered for multiple ships to fire upon it with MAC rounds, but the Dreadnaught received no apparent damage. After the activation of the Portal, Truth and his fleet entered it to travel to the Ark. After this point, the Dreadnaught is not seen again.

History

According to the account found in the sixth Terminal, Forerunner AI Offensive Bias controlled Dreadnaughts weighing exactly 37,654 tonnes each in his battle with the rampant Forerunner AI Mendicant Bias.

They've been using the Forerunner ship's engines as an energy source for the city. The ship isn't so much launching as it is disengaging, uncoupling itself from High Charity's power grid. Stopping Truth, that's all that matters!"
