Confinement bubble
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
- "Do you remember my story, when Riser and Bornstellar and I were kidnapped by the Master Builder? We were taken from orbit down to the San'Shyuum homeworld in what I can only describe as a kind of bubble, protection spheres that guarded us from the conditions of space. It is my conclusion that the captain may be contained in such a way and is therefore safe within the portal and the rigors of slipspace."
- — 343 Guilty Spark[1]
A confinement bubble[2] was a large energy sphere utilized by the Forerunners to safely transport prisoners through space.
Design and operation[edit]
A confinement bubble could be generated by seekers to transport prisoners from orbit to the surface of a planet. They were capable of protecting Forerunners in disabled armor from both the vaccum of space and atmospheric entry, but contained only limited oxygen which could quickly run out during an orbit-to-surface transport,[3] although on a planetary surface this was not an issue. The bubble was also able to hold the pain projectors being used on the Didact, the San'Shyuum prisoners and possibly Chakas and Riser. They could also be towed around by grapplers.[2]
343 Guilty Spark believed that a confinement bubble could be used to shield a human sufficiently enough to survive otherwise unprotected travel through a slipspace portal, at least one generated by a personal slipspace unit.[1]
History[edit]
After capturing the Didact, Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting, Chakas and Riser, the Master Builder's forces used confinement bubbles to transport them from the remains of the Didact's ship to the surface of Janjur Qom.[3] On the planet's surface, they continued to be used to hold Bornstellar's companions as well as the San'Shyuum prisoners.[2]
In August 2558, after Rion Forge was pulled through a slipspace portal[4] to Erebus VII by the Precept using a personal slipspace unit,[5] 343 Guilty Spark - who had once been Chakas when he was human - recalled when he, Riser and Bornstellar were captured by the Master Builder and brought to the planet's surface in confinement bubbles. Spark theorized that the same technology was used to keep Rion safe within the portal and the rigors of slipspace.[1]
