The corvette is a warship classification that was used by the Covenant, before the empire's collapse in 2552. The Covenant employed corvettes for a wide array of functions. Historically, they were often responsible for surveying Forerunner artifact sites and for the deployment of small artifact-retrieval teams to elude any local defensive measures.[1]
During the Human-Covenant War, corvettes were utilized by the Covenant in front-line combat roles as well as long-range reconnaissance of potential naval staging areas and colonies. The relatively small size of Covenant corvettes, as well as their maneuverability and low sensor signature, allow them to remain undetected except at close range.[1]
Classes
Three known classes of corvettes were used by the Covenant throughout the Human-Covenant War:
Class | Image | Details |
---|---|---|
Ceudar-pattern heavy corvette | A heavy escort craft that can operate independently.[3] | |
Makar-pattern light corvette | A stealth and intelligence gathering focused classification.[4] | |
Intrusion corvette | A stealth corvette class notably employed by the Silent Shadow.[5] |
