Uplift is a medium/large sized Halo 2 for Windows Vista multiplayer map. It is included in the release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
Universe and loreEdit
The UNSC Coral Sea eventually encountered a Covenant infantry detachment attempting to tap into one of Delta Halo’s critical power conduits. This energy node was designed to delicately control the direction and movement of the ring as it orbited the gas giant Substance, but the Covenant believed it was also of great religious significance.[2]
OverviewEdit
LayoutEdit
Uplift is an island structure similar to Relic. Like most Halo 2 maps, Uplift provides certain landmarks that help players. Two bases are opposite from each other and connected by a large bridge, and there are large structures on either side. The blue base is built inside the cliffs making it an indoor base, while red base is a miniature base sized version of the Library as seen in the campaign.
This map was created for larger scale objective games. It offers access to both infantry and vehicles. By doing this, "the bridge ended up being the infantry route and the terrain below is a vehicle playground".[3] Uplift also has two turrets, "One is facing the bridge sidelong, which could whittle a flag-runner down pretty well as they try to cross it ".[3]
The bases are well set. The blue flag/bomb arming place, in the cliffs, have only two ways to access it, by doorways through either side. The red base is also very similar. The bridge offers the direct route while vehicle ramps offer another way to get up there.
TriviaEdit
Production notesEdit
- Designer Jeremy Statz was responsible for designing Uplift. In creating the map, he wanted to "create a Forerunner equivalent of a space elevator by twisting the concept and making it an energy beam of some kind. I figured that the energy beam and associated structure would look cool and give the level the desired central theme as well as provide the main landmark for the level.[3]
- Originally, the level was to feature a Banshee, though it was deemed too powerful and instead replaced with a Ghost and rocket launcher.[3]
- The water under the bridge was originally intended to be deep, and kill players who fall in it. This was changed early in the map's development as to provide more routes around the island.[3]
TriviaEdit
- It is possible to get to the very top of the main structure where the beam comes out. It is a good place to camp with a sniper rifle or any other scoped weapon.
- The structure seen on the side of the map has a resemblance to the structure seen in the beginning of the Halo: Combat Evolved level The Silent Cartographer.
- This is one of only two levels where needler ammunition can be seen outside the weapon, the other level being 343 Guilty Spark in Halo: Combat Evolved.
- The Forerunner space elevator has a striking resemblance to The Library.
- There is a glitch on Uplift on Halo 2 for Windows Vista that if you already have the Legend or the Ninja achievement you can walk into the red beam on the Forerunner space elevator and you will receive the Hired Gun or Flaming Ninja achievement depending on the ones you already have.
