Warlord is a symmetrical multiplayer map in Halo 2: Anniversary. It is a remake of Warlock from Halo 2, with some minor changes. Warlock is one of the seven Halo 2 multiplayer maps that have been re-imagined in Halo 2: Anniversary's remastered multiplayer component.[4][5][6]
Universe and loreEdit
Warlord is within a stone monument made by the Forerunners in dedication to the Kradal conflicts, now in ruin and overtaken by plant growth.[3] The Kradal conflicts were a series of bloody civil wars that took place in the galactic center at some point prior to the Human-Forerunner wars.[7] The Ur-Didact's parents were the leaders of at least one of these rebellions against the ecumene, an effort which had started out as a peaceful movement to bring back the rates that the Builders had assimilated, but turned violent when the Builders tried to silence the Didact's father. At the height of the conflict, half of the occupied worlds were on the rebels' side.[8] Bitterness-of-the-Vanquished commanded Warrior-Servant forces during these conflicts,[7] suffering the loss of countless warriors.[2]
OverviewEdit
LayoutEdit
Warlord is a rotationally symmetrical arena map, its layout nearly identical to that of Halo 2's Warlock, as well as Halo: Combat Evolved's Wizard before it. The map consists of four corners, each with identical raised platforms and cover, only differentiated by a different color: red, blue, green, and yellow. Each corner also features a single gravity lift used to access the rear raised platform. Between each corner is a two-way teleporter which connects to the teleporter directly across from it on the other side of the map. In the center of the map is a spire with two floors.[3]
CalloutsEdit
The following are locations on the map that are so named on the player's heads-up display during gameplay:
- Crimson Altar
- Gold Altar
- Azure Altar
- Sage Altar
- Spire
- Alcove
Changes from WarlockEdit
- While Warlord retains Warlock's basic aesthetic design of overgrown Forerunner stone ruins, the central spire of the map now projects a beam of energy up to the sky. The beam and the playable area of the map are surrounded by a vortex of clouds and lightning. Assorted Forerunner symbols are engraved on the stone walls. The bases are more prominently color-coded with team-colored lights and gravity lifts. The red and blue bases also feature distinct symbols.[4]
- Pieces of cover have been added to the passageways between the bases and the four raised platforms around the center of the map. These added features also allow players to jump to the bases. Similar structures are also found on the other side of the platforms, beside the ramps that serve as the primary means of access to the top; a shotgun spawns on each of these added structures. The jump to the center platform from the four side platforms is easier due to these extensions. To provide more cover to players on the platforms, the pillars on top of the ramps have been widened.[4]
- A sentinel beam spawns in the area below the central platform.[4]
