This article is about the gel used by the Forerunners and Covenant for energy. For the recreational narcotics used by Unggoy, see infusion.

Infusion gel is a perfected form of the energetic meta-materials and strained-bond lattices used in Covenant fuel rods. It was also something known to the Forerunners, as it is one of the materials pumped throughout Installation 00 in great rivers to keep the installation functioning.[1]

History

Voridus, a Jiralhanae serving the Banished, took advantage of the Ark's infusion gel during the faction's occupation of the installation in 2559. His prototype infusion technology produced corrosive and mutagenic sludge during use. This was not enough to keep him from field testing new weapons that harnessed these dangerous by-products, however. Uses of infusion gel discovered by Voridus included utilizing it in powerful explosives and targeted bombing runs. Extended exposure to the toxic residue of his experiments with infusion gel altered his Huragok assistants, causing some to simply fall apart while the rest have been changed in other—more subtle—ways. These “damaged” Engineers were shunned by their healthy companions and displayed distinctly non-Huragok behaviors, such as a lack of interest in repairing Forerunner machinery and sabotaging equipment of Banished who had annoyed them in the past. In addition, grenadiers fighting for Voridus were intentionally exposed to the aformentioned toxic by-products in order to grant them extra power, even while it rots their bodies.[1]

During the Second Ark Conflict, Voridus used his infusion-augmented Scarab to cut through the High Charity quarantine shield. Voridus also employed special variants of the Banished Wraith known as the Terror Wraith, equipped with infusion-firing plasma mortars.
