The artifact onboard the UNSC Infinity.

The Requiem translocation artifact was discovered by Fireteam Majestic in 2558.

History

In 2558, both Covenant remnant and UNSC forces began looking for the artifact on Requiem. The Covenant remnant determined that it was located in a region of artificial volcanic activity; after arriving there, they immediately secured the area and began looking for the artifact. Fireteam Crimson arrived later, after they discovered the artifact's location from a map found in an area known as "Refuge". Upon eliminating Covenant and Promethean forces in the area Crimson discovers the artifact and moves to secure it. While awaiting extraction, Promethean reinforcements arrived, but Crimson managed to hold them off until a Pelican arrived to extract them.[1]

Shortly after being brought aboard the UNSC Infinity, the artifact activated, emitting an orange energy pulse and began to drain power from the ship. Commander Sarah Palmer managed to temporarily deactivate it by kicking it. Dr. Glassman, the Infinity's chief engineer, started examining the artifact but it suddenly reactivated, emitting an energy pulse which soon overtook Dr. Glassman, disintegrated him and pulled him inside the artifact through some kind of portal. It then translocated and reassembled him inside a Covenant-held site on Requiem, where he was captured and interrogated by Jul 'Mdama's forces.[2] Captain Lasky was almost pulled in as well trying to save the doctor.[3] Back aboard Infinity, Dr. Catherine Halsey was brought in to study the artifact. Halsey determined that it was communicating with the ship's drive engines, which were of Forerunner design, and transmitting data to an unknown location on Requiem.[2]
