History
Post-War years
Throughout the Post-Covenant War conflicts between 2557 and 2559, Fireteam Intrepid had worked alongside John-117 and Blue Team on numerous occasions. They were considered one of the best Spartan outfits on the UNSC Infinity.[2] According to Tomas Horvath, the Spartans on Intrepid were chaos-makers on the battlefield and onboard Infinity; they were known to make bets and plan pranks among themselves.[3]

Installation 07
- Main article: Battle for Zeta Halo
On December 12, 2559, Fireteam Intrepid was onboard UNSC Infinity when it was ambushed by Banished forces upon arrival at Installation 07. As the Infinity fell to the Banished assault, Captain Thomas Lasky was evacuated from the ship, and Spartan Hudson Griffin ordered all Spartans to evacuate.[4] Fireteam Intrepid left the ship on drop pods, and landed in a sector of the ring occupied by the Banished. Having made landfall at a location separated from the main area of engagement,[1] the Spartans entered battle upon landfall.[5] They spent most of the first day moving towards the main battlefield, taking out every patrol, supply vehicle, scouting party, and support line they came across.[1]
On the next day, while Fireteam Intrepid made their way to a trio of Kywasky Workshop Gorespike cannons the Banished had set up south of the Silent Auditorium, they picked up a distress call from Lucas Browning, one of the survivors from the trapped SKT-29 Bumblebee Papa Tango Delta 09. Si Wheeler commanded Horvath to locate the Bumblebee and assist its survivors. However, while Horvath made his way to the Bumblebee, Installation 07 suddenly entered slipstream space. Shortly after, an explosion on the ring fractured its surface. The ring's surface ripped open and flung Horvath off his feet, sending him tumbling across a plateau. Amidst the chaos, Horvath was separated from his fireteam, and the explosion disabled his armor systems.[1][6]
The fate of the remaining members of Intrepid following the explosion became unknown to Horvath; they did not rendezvous with other UNSC survivors at the wreckage of UNSC Mortal Reverie.[7] Meanwhile, Horvath spent most of the next six months alone on the ring, avoiding Banished troops while attempting to contact other UNSC forces.[8][9] Between December 18 and 25, he was stranded on a ring fragment with the Bloodstar Gorian,[10][11] having to form an uneasy truce to escape the fragment by hijacking an Aggressor Sentinel and using it to fly back to the main fragment.[12][13] On March 4, 2560, Horvath found the mortally-wounded Kate Stalling, who informed him of the ring's Conspectus network and Gorian's intent to access the network's data. After Horvath lend Stalling an M6 sidearm to end her suffering, Horvath buried her body and vowed to locate the Conspectus network hub and send the ring's location to the UNSC, so Stalling's sacrifice would not be in vain.[14]
On May 3, Horvath located a Conspectus network hub, only to find it destroyed. Instead, he came across the boat crew, led by Spartan Nina Kovan and guided by submonitor 091 Adjutant Veridity; he joined the group and was made aware they had retrieved the network's data from Spartan Bonita Stone's body.[7][15] At the Conservatory, he released the monitor of the ring from lockdown; 117649 Despondent Pyre gave humans access to a beacon tower.[16] Horvath would be instrumental in the battle of the beacon tower on May 14; he took out the Banished troops guarding the tower exterior,[17] then fought Gorian when Jega 'Rdomnai led reinforcements to the tower.[18] However, during their fight, the two fell onto a translocation pad and were teleported away just before the pad was destroyed by a Banished Thrasher missile, preventing Horvath's return or the others from following him.[19] Horvath was teleported to a partially collapsed mountain facility somewhere far away from the beacon, where he shoved Gorian's body off the mountain. Horvath then collapsed from his injuries and spent the next day comatose—half from exhaustion—before coming to again.[20] On May 25,[Note 1] Horvath issued a final transmission, announcing that he planned to move away from Banished territory to search for survivors. He also made an open plea to the Master Chief that they need him now more than ever.[20][21]
