Fireteam Shadow is an elite special operations team of four SPARTAN-IV supersoldiers. They were assigned to the UNSC Infinity and fought on the Forerunner shield world Requiem in July 2557.[1] They later fought in the Requiem Campaign of February 2558 under the handle of Spartan Carmichael.[2]

Requiem

Main article: Requiem Campaign

In February 2558, Fireteam Shadow assisted Fireteam Crimson in protecting the science team at "the Refuge" during the Requiem Campaign. This was accomplished by infiltrating a Covenant Zanar-pattern light cruiser. In spite of heavy resistance, the team overloaded the ship's power core, destroying the cruiser and saving Crimson.[2]

During the Requiem Campaign Fireteam Shadow, tested GOBLIN-class Mjolnir,[5] but the individual members have also worn ARGUS, HELIOSKRILL, WAR MASTER, and OPERATOR-class Mjolnir.[6]

Installation 07

Main article: Installation 07 conflict

On December 12, 2559, Fireteam Shadow was onboard UNSC Infinity when it was ambushed by Banished forces upon arrival at Installation 07. With the Infinity taking heavy damage, Captain Lasky ordered the crew to abandon ship.[7] At least three members of Fireteam Shadow, Bonita Stone, Nina Kovan and Theodore Sorel, made it to the surface of the ring, where they immediately engaged the Banished forces until a powerful explosion ended the battle and caused the ring to fracture.[8]

By December 18, Stone, Sorel, and Kovan seemingly the only survivors of Fireteam Shadow, have rendezvoused with other UNSC forces at the wreckage of UNSC Mortal Reverie, which had been found by Spartan Vedrana Makovich and designated as a UNSC base of operations.[9] For the next six months Stone, Sorel and Kovan took part in the UNSC resistance against the Banished, carrying out sabotage operations and recon sweeps. By April 26, Stone infiltrated a Banished excavation site but was ambush and killed shortly after by the Hand of Atriox's member Jega 'Rdomnai.[10][11] On May 15 Spartan Sorel, accompanied by Spartan Makovich, infiltrated another excavation site called the Conservatory.[12] Inside, the two were ambushed by the Sangheili Jega 'Rdomnai, with Sorel being wounded by 'Rdomnai's surprise attack. Makovich urged Sorel to run ahead to locate the monitor, while she would fend off 'Rdomnai. Makovich died in the following duel against the Sangheili, while Sorel made a last stand deeper inside the facility, being killed by the Jiralhanae brothers Tovarus and Hyperius.[13]

The fate of Nina Kovan and Fireteam Shadow's leader, Horatio Fry, remains unknown.
