The New York Times front page from 11/11/1918, as seen on NMPD HQ.

The New York Times is an Easter egg in Halo 3: ODST. Throughout the game, papers and other various detritus litter the ground. Although most of these items are completely indecipherable, one is a newspaper bearing the partially obscured headline:

ARMISTICE (SIGNED, END OF) THE WAR!
BERLIN SEIZED BY REVOLUTIONISTS;
NEW CHANCELLOR BEGS FOR ORDER;
OUSTED KAISER FLEES TO HOLLAND

Unlike most Easter eggs found in the Halo games, this newspaper story is not fictional. It is in reality the front page of the New York Times from November 11, 1918, announcing the end of the First World War.[1]

Location

Although the newspaper can be found throughout the game, it is perhaps most easily viewed on NMPD HQ, as it appears in a fully lit area. Four copies of the paper can be found in the room in which Edward Buck says, "Grab some ammo, Romeo. These boys won't need it." One is inside the desk in the center of the room, near a dead NMPD officer's left foot. A second is to the officer's right, near a chair; in the Master Chief Collection version of the game, a sniper rifle is pointing directly at it. A third is to the far right of the room, near a dead NMPD officer, a dead Grunt, and a large blood stain on the floor. The final copy is on the left side of the room near the far AC chatter console.
