18 Scorpii is a planetary system located 45.7 light years from Sol, and is identified as a region in FLEETCOM Sector Three.[1] 18 Scorpii has many physical properties in common with Sol.[2]
History
Falaknuma is a UNSC colony within the system. 18 Scorpii also saw in 2535 a large asteroid led by the UNSC Midsummer Night loaded with over a million refugees from behind Covenant lines.[3] It was also the site of a minor engagement between UNSC and Covenant forces in 2543, in which UNSC forces were saved by a surprise force of independent/Insurrectionist ships.[4]
Trivia
- 18 Scorpii was identified in September 2003 by astrobiologist Margaret Turnbull from the University of Arizona in Tucson as one of the most promising nearby candidates for hosting life based on her analysis of the HabCat list of stars,[2] but no planets have yet been confirmed to orbit the real-life star.
- Cayrel de Strobel (1996) included it in her review of the stars most similar to the Sun, and Porto de Mello & da Silva (1997) identified it as a solar twin.
