During Invasion, the game goes from the Front Yard where the Research Center is located, to the Back yard where the Vault is located. The Spartans will spawn in the Research Center and the Elites will spawn in the cliff area. In Invasion, the two territories in the first phase will change. Alpha features a series of red lights that will turn green as the timer goes down. Bravo features a vent that will rise up over time. When the Elites take over the two territories in the first phase, the Bridge will come down and the Tunnel will open to give access to the Back Yard. The Elites must then plant a bomb on the outside of the vault to gain access to the core. When the walls of the Vault are blown open, the Elites must take the core to the [[Ru'swum-pattern Phantom|Phantom]] located near the Bridge. The map is also compatible with the Race gametype.

Breakpoint is a multiplayer map in the Noble Map Pack for Halo: Reach.[2] Breakpoint was remade as Fracture using Forge in Halo 5: Guardians.

Universe and lore[edit]

Breakpoint is set in an ONI research site in a mountainous region on planet Reach, near an exposed piece of the Babd Catha Forerunner vessel. There are modular archaeological labs scattered across the area.[2] It is considered a "Site B" to the "Site A" that was Dr. Catherine Halsey's lab accessible from SWORD Base.[3] During the Fall of Reach, the Covenant launched an assault on the research site; additional UNSC ground and air assets were deployed to bolster the Spartan defenders.[2]

Overview[edit]

Layout[edit]

When the walls of the Vault are blown open, the Elites must take the core to the Phantom located near the Bridge. The map is also compatible with the Race gametype.

Callouts[edit]

The following are locations on the map that are so named on the player's heads-up display during gameplay:

  • Front Yard
  • Research Center
  • Upper Rock Tunnel
  • Lower Rock Tunnel
  • Rock Spine
  • The Hub
  • Tunnel
  • Back Yard
  • Barracks
  • Vehicle Bay
  • Retrieval
  • Bridge
  • Vault

Production notes[edit]

Breakpoint was designed by Noble Map Pack Design Lead Derek Carroll, primarily for the Invasion gametype. It is the largest map on the Noble Map Pack; the map's large size and its vast viewpoints posed a challenge to balance memory and budget against the graphical fidelity.[3][4] One of the design goals was to leverage the map size to create space for vehicle combat. Environment artist Jason Sussman designed the human architecture on the map, while Ray Broscovak and Matt Bennier served as the finishing artists on the terrain and built structures, respectively.[3]

Trivia[edit]

  • Breakpoint is the first Bungie-made Invasion map to feature an Assault phase, in which one team carries a bomb to an objective. The Elites use a Covenant bomb instead of the regular UNSC one.
  • It was the first map to feature the Rocket Warthog in Multiplayer matchmaking.[3]
  • On each of the "fins" of the Forerunner structure jutting from the mountain, one of the most common Forerunner symbols can be seen.
  • If the Spartans beat the Elites in the first phase of a Breakpoint Invasion game, the announcer will say "Skunked!" like in Invasion during the beta.
  • There is a certain way to glitch the Phantom at the landing pad area by flying up/jumping up and hitting it multiple times or using a Spartan Laser, it will begin with the basic hull becoming invisible then the entire interior.
