The UNSC Barracks is a UNSC military building produced off of a prefabricated Firebase. As its name suggests, it is the building where the UNSC infantry are stationed.[1][2] The Covenant equivalent to the Barracks is the Hall, while the Banished equivalent is the Raid Camp.
Overview[edit]
Infantry shipped down from starships to the prefabricated firebase are stationed in its Barracks.[1] While it lacks the comforts of a real training center, the Barracks houses the raw recruits and equipment needed to field squads of UNSC Marines.[1] The barracks also contains a recreation area, a mess hall,[2] and an armory.[1] It is also a space for troops to acclimate and review tactical situation reports. Prior to deployment, troops are given a briefing and arm themselves in the armory before exiting the firebase.[1] For the UNSC Spirit of Fire, the Barracks allows the requisition of Hellbringers, Cyclops, Snipers, Marines, and ODSTs. Army and Marine Corps troopers are detached ("chopped") from their parent unit aboard the Spirit of Fire and deployed to reinforce key firebases on the battlefield as well as replace the injured personnel are evacuated from the combat zone.[1]
In-game information[edit]
Halo Wars[edit]
- "The Barracks trains the bulk of the UNSC infantry units. Infantry technology upgrades can also be found here."
- — In-game description
In Halo Wars, Barracks costs 150 to be built. It produce infantry units and corresponding improvements for them.
Name | Type | Cost | Description | ||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Population | Tech | Resources | |||
Marine | Main Infantry | 1 | 0 | 100 | Marines are the main UNSC infantry unit. They are good against most everything. They have an active Grenade Ability that can be eventually upgraded to an active Rocket Launcher Ability. |
New Blood | Upgrade | N/A | 1 | 200 | Adds another Marine to the squad. This increases the combat effectiveness of the squad. |
RPG Ability | Upgrade | N/A | 2 | 400 | Marine active Grenade Ability upgraded to active Rocket Ability. Rockets can attack from a longer range than Grenades. |
Medic | Upgrade | N/A | 3 | 700 | Adds a Combat Medic to the squad. The Medic heals the squad after combat. |
ODST Super Unit (Captain Cutter) | Upgrade | N/A | 3 | 1,800 | Upgrades Marines to Orbital Drop Shock Troopers super units. ODSTs are better than Marines in every way. ODSTs can also be hot-dropped anywhere on the battlefield from Spirit of Fire. |
ODST (Captain Cutter; requires upgrade) | Main Infantry | 1 | 0 | 100 | ODSTs are an elite version of UNSC Marines. They excel at everything a Marine is good at, but can also be hot-dropped anywhere on the battle from Spirit of Fire. |
Flamethrower | Anti-Infantry | 1 | 0 | 100 | Pyromaniacs to the core, UNSC Flamethrowers burn up any organic thing they can find. They excel at killing all infantry units. |
Flash Bang Ability | Upgrade | N/A | 1 | 200 | Equips Flamethrowers with an active Flash Bang ability that stuns any enemy infantry for a short time. |
Napalm Adherent | Upgrade | N/A | 2 | 400 | Adds burning sticky napalm to an attack. Burns enemies for several seconds after the initial attack. |
Oxide Tank | Upgrade | N/A | 3 | 700 | An advanced, higher burn point fuel increases damage to all organic units. |
Spartans | Special Forces | 1/3[Note 1] | 1 | 300 | Prototype UNSC super soldiers, the Spartan possess extreme combat skills. Spartans have an active ability to Jack enemy vehicles and Commandeer friendly vehicles. This boosts the combat power of those vehicles. |
Chain Gun | Upgrade | N/A | 2 | 300 | Equips Spartans with two-handed auto-guns for dramatically increased damage. |
Neural Implant | Upgrade | N/A | 3 | 600 | Improved reflexes allow Spartans to Jack enemy vehicles much more effectively. |
Spartan Laser | Upgrade | N/A | 4 | 1,000 | The ultimate UNSC handheld weapon gives Spartans a distinct combat advantage. |

Phoenix log[edit]
Infantry staging area. Infantry shipped down from the Spirit of Fire muster in the firebase's Barracks. The Barracks allows the requisition of Hellbringers, Cyclops, and Snipers and unlocks their upgrade options. Multiple Barracks in a firebase reduces infantry requisition time. Army and Marine Corps troopers are detached ("chopped") from their parent unit aboard the Spirit of Fire and deployed to reinforce key firebases on the Ark's surface, replacing injured personnel who are then medevac‘d out of the combat zone. While they await assignment to a fireteam, the "new blood" acclimate and review tactical situation reports in the barracks, which doubles as a recreation area and mess hall during lulls in battle. |
Production notes[edit]
The design of the barracks went through multiple iterations during the production of Halo Wars.
