History[edit]
Rise of humanity[edit]
In the 2400s, the East African Protectorate began a series of renationalization initiatives including water-purification facility construction and alternative energy facility construction. This resulted in the government run Global Water Campaign (GWC) creating the Mount Kilimanjaro Water Plant and Wind Power Station 7 on Zanzibar.[5]
Human-Covenant war[edit]
- Main articles: Battle of Mombasa, Second Battle of Mombasa, Battle of Kenya
During the final months of the Human-Covenant War in late 2552, the East African Protectorate became the site to key battles which determined the outcome of the war. Over the course of the Battle of Earth despite many other Covenant forces were deployed all across the planet,[11][12] the Covenant under the Prophet of Truth's command concentrated most of their forces in East Africa as they excavated long-buried Forerunner Portal structure, invading and occupying a large portion of the surrounding area in the process.[13][14]
Post-war[edit]
Following the end of the war, the EAP planned on rebuilding the urban core of Mombasa, an expensive and ambitious project. UEG investment through Project Rebirth and UNSC actions at the Portal did help revitalize some areas of the city like Haller Street.[15] However at some point, as a part of Project Rebirth, the member states of the EAP donated gold ore for a statue of John-117 to be placed in the United Nations Space Command Memorial Park in New Mombasa.[3]
In 2555, the monitor 000 Tragic Solitude attacked Earth and specifically the region around the Voi Portal.[16] Two years later, Rion Forge would infiltrate a Forerunner site at Mount Kilimanjaro.[17]
Government and society[edit]
The "heart and soul" of the East African Protectorate was considered to be Mombasa.[18]
Services[edit]
Dozens of wind power stations were spread around the coastal regions of the EAP.[2] Some of the services in the EAP were known to coordinate or otherwise work with organizations elsewhere on the continent such as with the Voi Greater Outlands Police Bureau and the Western African Committee on Missing Persons.[19]
The EAP also maintained a regional peacekeeping force. The UNSC Crassus would be recommissioned and serve with them between 2411 and 2490.[20]
Relationship with the UEG[edit]
Located within Mombasa is the East African Protectorate's Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) headquarters, ONI Alpha Site.[21] Across the East African Protectorate are numerous UNSC training facilities, such as UNSC Training Facility Bravo.[5]
Trivia[edit]
- The East Africa Protectorate (colloquially known as British East Africa) was a territory of the British Empire between 1895 and 1920. Its borders correspond to 21st century Kenya.
- There is a real-world proposal to merge Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi into a single federated state with a similar name known as the East African Federation.
