2559 was a year in the 2550s in the 26th century. It was a time period filled with many large battles: the ongoing violent Sangheili-Jiralhanae war, an isolated skirmish on Installation 00 between the UNSC Spirit of Fire and the Banished, and the overarching Created conflict.
Events[edit]
January[edit]
January 16
- The survivors that fled the Henry Lamb Research Center on Installation 00 stumble upon a transport route set up by the Banished to move mined resources. The group rests and argues for a while concerning which direction they should head in next.[1]
January 17
- Nathaniel Palmer records that including himself, only eight survivors in their group remain.[1]
January 23
- Aboard the UNSC Infinity, Spartan 92738-61842-LC of Fireteam Apollo interviews Spartan Commander Sarah Palmer as part of their investigation concerning the root cause of the recent decisions made by the artificial intelligence Cortana.[2]
January 24
- Spartan 92738-61842-LC continues their investigation regarding Cortana with an interview of Doctor Catherine Halsey, her creator.[3]
February[edit]
February 10
- The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor (GEN3) enters into service.[4][5]
March[edit]
March 4
- Orda Val 'Saham records his thoughts on one of the Ark's Cartographers and its link to the Covenant faith.[6]
March 28
- After 28 years of drifting in space the UNSC Spirit of Fire finds its way to the orbit of the Forerunner Installation 00, known as the Ark. Awakened from cryo-sleep, the crew eventually travels down to the Ark to find out how to establish contact with the galaxy. However, on the surface of the Ark they encounter a hostile, violent mercenary faction known as the Banished, led by the cunning Jiralhanae warlord Atriox.[7][8]
March 29
- Seth, an A.I. aboard the Spirit of Fire, cross-analyzes transcripts, incident report data, and a past surveillance report provided by the Logistics Smart A.I. Isabel in order to compile a research report on Atriox for Captain James Cutter.[9][10] Ellen Anders learns more about the Forerunners thanks to Isabel, and wonders about the Librarian's plan for humanity, but she focuses her attention on helping the crew against the Banished.[11][12]
On or before March 30[Note 1]
- The Spirit of Fire forces make an assault on the Ark's Cartographer, and learn about the Banished use of the Ark's translocation portal network.[13][14]
March 30
- Two Unggoy attempt to desert the Banished, but they are executed by Balkarus.[15]
- Orda Val'Saham records his thoughts on the UNSC's capture of the Cartographer in his personal journal.[16]
April[edit]
On or before April 2[Note 2]
- Decimus is killed by UNSC forces. Immediately after his death, the Spirit of Fire is attacked by the Enduring Conviction.[17]
- Enduring Conviction is destroyed by Jerome-092 and Isabel when they forced the Ark's Aggressor Sentinels into attacking the ship. A Halo ring is discovered on the Ark's Foundry.[18]
- Ellen Anders and Installation 09 leave Installation 00 in hopes of getting to the Soell system, but are intercepted by a Guardian before they arrive.[19]
April 2
- James Cutter records his thoughts on the departure of Installation 09 in his personal journal.[20]
May[edit]
May[Note 3]
- Operation: SPEARBREAKER - Sunray 1-1 manage to halt the Banished plan of using a Forerunner Despair-class fighter to destroy the Spirit of Fire.[21][22]
May 8
- Ilsa Zane infiltrates Admiral Mattius Drake's flagship, the NCA D'artagnan. In front of Escharum and broadcasting it on an open frequency to all the New Colonial Alliance-aligned vessels in the Edolas system, Zane executes Drake with her pistol, and pledge the NCA's allegiance to the Banished.[23]
May 21
- The Banished try to deploy outposts on Site Ricochet, but they are interrupted by the awakening of a large Forerunner defensive construct. The construct kills the entire Banished contingent except of the Sangheili Jato 'Ratum,[24] A contingent of UNSC Hellbringers led by Morgan Kinsano witness the event, and informs Captain Cutter that the site is unusable for both sides, before being transferred to Echo Base.[25]
- Following the assassination of an important Jiralhanae captain, Sunray 1-1 retreats to Quebec Base and spent the evening enjoying a cookout with the Marine forces who had supported their mission, and celebrate Alannah Quinn's birthday in advance.[25]
June[edit]
June 1
- Comms officer G. Peterson records what he observes of the area surrounding the wreckage of High Charity on Installation 00.[26]
June 4
- Lieutenant Voridus of the Banished inadvertently releases the Flood from within the containment shield around High Charity.[27] Voridus and his brother Pavium manage to reactivate the Sentinels, kill the Proto-Gravemind, and drive the Flood back into containment within the former Covenant city.
September[edit]
September 19
- Doctor Catherine Halsey modifies John-117's third-generation Mjolnir armor.[5]
October[edit]
October 7
- Blue Team is sent to recover top-secret assets from the ruins of CASTLE base on Reach.[28]
October 12
- The Banished opened the portal from Reach to the Ark, allowing Atriox to return to the galaxy. Castor led his detachment of the Keepers of the One Freedom in hijacking Atriox's lich to reach the Ark.[28] The Covenant, UNSC, and Banished fought a three-way battle for control of the portal.[29]
October 14
- Ferrets, along with the UNSC Spirit of Fire and the Banished's Clan of the Long Shields, destroys Intrepid Eye and Castor's remaining Keepers on Epsilon Clarion to prevent Castor and the Covenant Loyalists from triggering Halo's firing mechanism.[29]
October 24
- A funeral in memory of John Cassidy and Mark-G313 is held by the Spirit of Fire crew.

Notes[edit]
- ^ Orda Val'Saham's note, "A Split Heart is Easily Conquered", written on March 30, 2559, details his thoughts after the battle for the Cartographer. As such, the UNSC must have captured the facility on or prior to this date..
- ^ Cutter's note, "Beyond the Edge", written on April 2, 2559, details his thoughts after the departure of the Halo ring. As such, the destruction of Enduring Conviction and the successive release and battle for Installation 09 must take place on the same day prior to this date.
- ^ Halo Wars 2: Operation: SPEARBREAKER's first mission, Gatecrashers, sets the expansion as taking place a month following the Halo Wars 2 main game. As such, this could place the expansion anywhere between early May and early June of 2559 - the latter being the point at which the successive expansion Awakening the Nightmare is set.

The Prophets provided the Brutes with powerful new weapons, hoping that they would in turn defend their Prophets against our wrath. But when the Prophets went into hiding, the lack of leadership allowed the Brutes to return to their savage nature and they soon began to fight against each other. This lack of solidarity made them much easier prey. Some of my fellow commanders continue that fight even now"
