18 Scorpii is a planetary system identified as a region in FLEETCOM Sector Three,[1] where the human colony world Falaknuma is located.[2]

Overview[edit]

Planetary system[edit]

History[edit]

Colonization[edit]

In 2446, the Unified Earth Government settled on the planet of Falaknuma in the system.[3]

Covenant War[edit]

In 2535, 18 Scorpii was the chosen destination for the Exodus Project - a plan created by the inhabitants of the Rubble to convert an asteroid for use as a "lifeboat" to evacuate over a million refugees in the event their base was attacked by the Covenant. During the Battle of the Rubble, the asteroid was escorted to 18 Scorpii by UNSC Midsummer Night. On approach, UNSC forces in the system suspected in the approaching mass to be a large Cvoeannt armada - though the emergence of the asteroid soon proved these fears false. The refugees on the asteroid were promptly rescued and settled on Falaknuma, with the asteroid disintegrating soon after.[2]

In 2543, 18 Scorpii was the site of an engagement between UNSC and Covenant naval forces, with the three ships of Battle Group Sierra-3 taking on a single Covenant Sinaris-pattern heavy destroyer. The UNSC forces were almost destroyed in the battle, though saved by the timely intervention of an insurrectionist flotilla led by the frigate Bellerophon.[1] The fending off of this attack was successful, and Falaknuma survived the war entirely unscathed by the Covenant.[3]
