"Kig-Yar snipers assigned the Fleet of Particular Justice displayed uncharacteristic bravery in their valiant defense against the Flood onslaught on Installation 04. Improved Halo 2 Beam Rifle with faster rate of fire and increased hipfire accuracy."
— In-game description[2][3]

The Type-50 Alpha (shortened T-50α) is a variant of the Sulok-pattern beam rifle utilised by the Covenant.[2][3]

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The T-50α is identical to one of the two major chassis variations of the Sulok-pattern rifle, though forsakes the original's blue nanolaminate coating for a vibrant red/yellow/white paintjob similar to several other Covenant weapon variants.[4] Mechanically, the weapon has been adjusted to have a higher rate-of-fire than its standard counterpart.[2][3]

Usage[edit]

During the Battle of Installation 04 in September 2552, Kig-Yar snipers were deployed equipped with T-50α beam rifles. These Kig-Yar were some of the unlucky Covenant forces tasked with holding off the onslaught of the Flood, during which they displayed uncharacteristic bravery.[2][3]

In late 2558, Spartan-IVs serving aboard the UNSC Infinity trained with the Alpha beam rifle in War Games simulations.[4]

In-game information[edit]

Halo 5: Guardians[edit]

The T-50α beam rifle - known in-game as the Halo 2 Beam Rifle Alpha - was first introduced into Halo 5: Guardians in the Warzone Firefight update. According to 343 Industries Senior Systems Designer Daniel Wiksten, the weapon was intended as a slightly more forgiving alternative to the standard beam rifle. The weapon's faster fire rate allows it to be used to double-tap enemy players rather than rely on going for headshots.[2]

In-game, the Beam Rifle Alpha is a Rare 6 energy Power Weapon REQ worth REQ Points 150 when sold.
