Talk:Halopedia

Read about the attempt Number 2 to get a Wikipedia Page

I've resurected this page to gear up for our next attempt. You can read the Deleted argument here. While there were enough KEEP votes the page was still deleted by the Wikipedia Admin, Yomangani. The official reason being:

"there are no reliable sources mentioned in the article with the site as the subject and none have been provided during the course of the AfD. The fact that other similar sites have articles is not a basis for the inclusion of this one. If reliable sources can be provided there is no reason why this article can not be recreated, but as it stands it fails WP:WEB."

Angela recomends that we don't appeal as:

I suggest you not make that argument there since there are a lot of anti-voters who will take this as a sign Halopedia should never have an article (often arguing one thing will get you the opposite on Wikipedia). What Wikipedia is not explains that Wikipedia is not a democracy. Angela talk 17:09, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Try Again[edit]

So the sticking point is 'reliable" media sources that mention Halopedia as the subjet of an article. Once we have that then we can try again. However there were alot of good arguements presented that I'm going to keep on this page:

  • Keep Halopedia is the biggest information database for the Halo Universe just like Wikipedia:Wookiepedia is the biggest information database for Star Wars. Also this reference is needed on Halopedia so people know where to put Halo articles that aren't notable enough to stand on their own in Wikipedia. Much in the same way that Wikipedia:Memory Alpha exists so that people can move obsure Star Trek articles that get aFD on Wikipedia. -- Esmono 06:19, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Isn't there some gaming WikiProject that can link to this as a depository of Halocruft? I believe there is, but either way, this simply doesn't have the coverage that those other two have. GassyGuy 00:26, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Halopedia is the biggest Halo information database almost as big as Wikipedia:Comixpedia in the amount of articles it has. --Esemono 12:31, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Keep Simply put, the Halo games have a large following. The fanbase is not necessarily larger than Star Trek or Star Wars, but there is enough interest in the site that it recieves 1000-2000 unique visitors a day. There have been 40,000 visitors from the USA, and significant numbers of visitors from 25 other countries. (Stats) Also, the site is more active than some smaller sites which have their own articles here on Wikipedia, such as Wikipedia:PlasticsWiki or Wikipedia:TikiWiki (Chart). In fact it has stayed in the top 25 most active wiki sites on wikia.com since it transfered to that format. To me, these statistics conform to the notability policy at Wikipedia. -Ed! 01:12, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Those stats seem too low. I don't think you're accounting for page caching. Google reports 20000 impressions per day, and that's usually a underestimate of about 33%. Angela. 10:42, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Keep. Meets the criteria of Wikipedia:WP:WEB since it's been mentioned in various news sites (which are linked from the article). At least 20,000 impressions a day and 26000 Google hits. (disclaimer: [[Wikia]] now hosts this site). Angela. 10:42, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Halopedia:Halopedia[edit]

I propose moving this article to "Halopedia:Halopedia". I don't think it should be a mainspace article... since it's about Halopedia itself, and not about a Halo character, weapon etc.Μητσάρας κι όποιος αντέξει File:1229655910-Th_master.jpg|20px]] 11:03, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Oppose.svg Oppose - Sorry JEA13, I agree with Sub. Spirit of Fire 12:20, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Support.svg Support - Its got nothing to do with the Halo Universe just like Halopedia:Administrators --Climax Void .

That's exactly the reason I proposed the renaming. - Μητσάρας κι όποιος αντέξει File:1229655910-Th_master.jpg|20px]]

Oppose.svg Oppose - The reason H:A doesn't have a mainspace article is because it has nothing to do with the Halo universe. It's about the administrators on a fan site, which is unrelated to our topic.

Halopedia, however, is a notable real-world Halo thing. For this reason, it would get noted. It's a notable topic, it's about Halo, and it's legitimate.

H:A explains who the administrators on Halopedia are, what they do, and so on. Only Halopedians would care. People who aren't Halopedians wouldn't care about the administrative team. People who are non-Halopedians can very well care about Halopedia, and would have a great chance of wanting to learn about it. Chiafriend12 02:53, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

There's already a Halopedia:Halopedia. It's called Halopedia:About. Also, Halopedia can have an article about itself but you should only have information that you would know from the outside. If it helps, imagine you're writing about Halopedia in another wiki.--99.237.222.73 14:51, October 12, 2009 (UTC)

Bungie's Reaction(s)[edit]

Is there a page that discusses or mentions Bungie's reaction(s) to Halopedia? Judging from the one comment I've read (Luke's on Halopedia's 7 page) it's somewhat favorable. But I'm wondering is there more to it than that? I ask here because I couldn't think of a better place for such material. - Lord Hyren 02:20, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, Bungie has only mentioned Bungie a few times, but to have been mentioned at all is an honor.

Of coarse, its still not enough for some of us =P SPARTAN-118

Appearance gallery[edit]

Shouldn't the picture on the main page be updated to the current logo Halopedia is using? Ιι Ηη Ππ 15:16, 2 November 2011 (EDT)

Think not. The new logo is essentially to celebrate the launch of HA, I think.— subtank 15:26, 2 November 2011 (EDT)
I thought it was permanent... I haven't been here long but from what I can see it seems like the old logo has been used for a while. Ιι Ηη Ππ 16:00, 2 November 2011 (EDT)

While we're talking about logos, are we gonna use a new logo when we get much higher quality (and cooler looking) pictures from Anniversary or Halo 4? pestilence Phil, pestilence! 21:39, 2 November 2011 (EDT)

I like that idea. I don't exactly like the transition between the Halo: CE and Halo: CEA graphics in the logo. A picture of the Master Chief in the full Anniversary graphics would be good in my opinion. Ιι Ηη Ππ 19:55, 3 November 2011 (EDT)

Halo Nation (Halo Wikia)[edit]

Don't worry, this time this post will be non-bias, non slander, non offensive, etc.

Apparently Halopedia and Halo Nation (Halo wikia) share a lot of the same pages because of the history.

"Halopedia's growing community began to present a major problem for its creators; the site's growing size was producing a bill in excess of $150 a month for server usage. Throughout May, June, and July, the site would be sporadically down, until it finally went offline for several weeks. Eventually, Halopedia had to be merged with halo.wikia.com, a formerly rival wiki simply referred as Halo Wikia that did not have the same issues. Despite the process of having to manually import every article from the original Halopedia (referred to as old.Halopedia due to its temporary filename), the site ultimately benefited with several new active users."

Maybe we should mention this on the article? The reason why both wikis share a lot of the same pages and content?Editorguy (talk) 22:20, 1 June 2016 (EDT)

It's already mentioned, in slightly different words: "In 2006, the original host was unable to financially support the wiki, prompting Halopedia to merge with Wikia's Halo Wiki site". FYI, there's a more exhaustive explanation of the history between Halopedia and Halo Nation on the FAQ, though I've been considering making it more accessible since there seems to be a lot of confusion around about it. --Jugus (Talk | Contribs) 00:13, 2 June 2016 (EDT)
