Operation: INTERIOR EXILE was a UNSC operation on an unknown moon[3] to secure Forerunner artifacts including a Forerunner starship.[1]

Background

Prior to the execution of the operation, Hieu Dinh recommended the use of an aerial insertion at night.[3]

Battle

Three squads, including Hieu Dinh and Padraig, were deployed[1] to an unknown moon.[3]

Hostile forces had built up around the starship. Conflicting reconnaissance information for ingress put all three squads in a compromised position.[1] At least one group deployed in a Warthog during the day.[2]

The operation, unfortunately, resulted in numerous deaths and the failure to secure the operational area.[1]

Aftermath

Following the operation, Dinh and Padraig would report its failure.[1] Codename: BAYLEAF and Codename: FLYBALL discussed the events that took place and recommended the usage of a larger force to prevent the capture of the Forerunner artifacts and to eventually begin facility construction.[1] This would at some point come to pass as by about 2560, a site near the ship was secured by the UNSC.[3]

Around 2560, the Banished AI Iratus forced Hieu Dinh to relive some memories of the operation. This included a simulation of his initial nighttime aerial insertion suggestion, which Iratus showed as a Pelican being shot down.[2]
