The Sniper Rifle System 99-Series 5 Anti-Matériel (SRS99-S5 AM) is a gas-operated anti-materiél sniper rifle used by the United Nations Space Command, part of the widely-used SRS99 series of weapons.[6] The S5 model is designed and manufactured by Misriah Armory.[6][1][2][3]

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

Main article: SRS99 Series

The SRS99-S5 AM is a semi-automatic, gas-operated sniper rifle that fires 14.5×114mm M232 armour-piercing fin-stabilising discarding sabot rounds from a 4-round magazine. The weapon's internals are nearly identical to that of the previous Series 2 models - key differences instead lie in the weapon's strong carrying handle, standard weapon attachment rails, and a heavily ruggedized frame.[2] By default, the Series 5 is equipped with the Oracle R-variant scope - featuring 4×-9× magnification and the capability to smart-link with a compatible heads-up display.[3]

Despite being a widely-used rifle in the post-war conflicts, the Series 5 was primarily developed and intended for use by augmented human personnel such as those of Spartan Operations.[2]

Variants[edit]

  • End of the Line: The End of the Line features reduced recoil and a faster rate of fire, but has less stopping power than the base SRS99-S5.[7]
  • Arrow of Time: The Arrow of Time features an extended magazine and heavy-duty cyberlink that prevents its user from descoping when shot. However, it does have more recoil than the standard SRS99-S5.[8]
  • Nornfang: Nornfang is the personal sniper rifle of Spartan-II Linda-058. It features Armor-Piercing High-Explosive (APHE) rounds, resulting in a greatly increased damage output. When in use, the user is shrouded in a fiery aura. Nornfang's ammunition pool isn't shared with other sniper rifles.[9]

Operational history[edit]

The Series 5 came into prominence within the UNSC towards the end of the Human-Covenant War. In the postwar era, it has become a staple of the military's arsenal;[3] by 2558 the Series 5 had become the model most highly-produced by Misriah manufacturing facilities.[1]

In-game information[edit]

Main article: Sniper_Rifle (gameplay) § Halo 4

The Sniper Rifle is a precision power weapon, which fires highly damaging projectiles at near instantaneous speeds. It features two levels of zoom, and a magazine of 4 rounds. This makes it a powerhouse at long ranges, capable of killing most enemies, including enemy players in multiplayer, with one headshot, and outranging other weapons like the Battle Rifle significantly. To compensate for its power, it is a relatively rare weapon, and ammo for it is difficult to find.

Trivia[edit]

  • The maximum range for the scope's rangefinder is 343 meters.
  • The SRS99-S5 was used as a placeholder for the sniper rifle in Halo 2: Anniversary's multiplayer before being replaced by the SRS99-AM sniper rifle.
