The panthedron is a large, predatory feline which uses echolocation to hunt in the dense forests of Boundary's fertile equatorial band.[1]

Overview[edit]

Biology[edit]

Some of the native fauna on Boundary grow larger than most other worlds because the ecosystems are so densely packed around the equator. The panthedron is one of these, which has evolved physical adaptations to defend against even larger predators. Similar to big cats on other worlds, the panthedron has a sleek, muscular body, with razor-sharp claws and a toothy maw, and for defense against predators employs a jagged, bony ridge of sharp, blade-like protrusions than runs from a skull-crest to the end of a long, slender tail. They have completely white eyes with no visible pupils. A juvenile male panthedron can reach up to five meters in length, with teeth at least ten centimeters long, and violet-dappled black fur.[1] Adults can grow even larger, with females exhibiting black fur with erratic yellow stripes, similar to the tigers of Earth.[2]

Behavior[edit]

Nearly blind, the panthedron creates a high-pitched ticking sound with its bony crest, which it uses for echolocation.[1]

Habitat[edit]

Panthedrons are native to the dense, ancient forests of Boundary's fertile equatorial band.[1]

Production notes[edit]

The panthedron's description is similar to the Arctic Ice Hound, a creature cut from Halo Wars.
