The UNSC Mortal Reverie (HCS: FFG-525)[7] was a Mulsanne-class light frigate in service with the UNSC Navy.[8]

Service history[edit]

Main article: Battle for Zeta Halo

On December 12, 2559, the Mortal Reverie was one of the six Mulsanne-class frigates in the advanced group with UNSC Infinity enroute to Installation 07.[9][10] The fleet was ambushed by Banished warships, and, following the battle in orbit of Installation 07, the Reverie crashed on the surface of the ring, cutting a deep gash into the ground and buckling the hull just forward of the ship's bridge, coming to rest at the edge of a fractured ring segment. Although the vessel remained largely intact, the ship was structurally damaged beyond any reasonable repair.[11]

On December 15, 2559, Spartan Vedrana Makovich came across the Reverie's wreckage, and established the crash site as a UNSC base of operations, gathering other UNSC forces at the site.[1] Commander Etana Hensler and Spartan Hudson Griffin were placed in charge of the forces at the wreckage.[6] Numerous survivors from the Infinity gathered at the crash site, including naval personnel, army troopers, marines, ODSTs, and Spartans; however, the remaining half of the survivors held no prior combat experience, being Unified Earth Government personnel, scientists, retail specialists, and support staff.[12] Lieutenant TJ Murphy was put in charge of providing military training to supply staff and non-military personnel; to set up a makeshift training ring, an area outside the Reverie was sectioned off by a random collection of supply crates, cargo bins, and salvaged parts.[13]

The interior of the Reverie remained accessible; the bridge,[13] the mess hall at main deck central, the med bay, and the locker rooms were put in use again.[6] However, survivors were instructed to keep out of damaged areas of the ships unless expressly permitted, with Decks One and Two being completely off-limits,[6] while sleeping quarters were allocated to Deck Three.[12] The bridge served as the command center for Hensler and Griffin.[12] The ship held sufficient supplies, rations, power, fuel, weapons, ammo, and enough hardware to repair almost anything. However, more specialized equipment were not readily available. The ship's local reception was unable to penetrate the Red Zone, the Banished-occupied territory in the east; to address this, a technician was rebuilding a sensor completely from scratch. There was only one working quantum printer for the whole ship.[13] Without a qualified Class-61 technician manning the small Spartan bay onboard, only an engineering scientist among the survivors could assist in repairs for the Spartans' GEN3 Mjolnir armor and operating systems.[14]

Under the leadership of Commander Hensler and Spartan Griffin,[13] the UNSC forces at the Reverie ran numerous guerilla ops against the Banished forces.[15] First Lieutenant Floyd conducted multiple field surveys and reconnaissance missions on nearby Banished outposts, reporting his findings to Spartans Griffin, Bertold Vettel, and Bonita Stone,[16][17] while also attempting to contact other UNSC forces.[15]

On January 31, 2560,[3] Chieftain Tremonius and Captain Arthoc led a massive Banished force in an assault on the crash site.[18] Under an overwhelming assault, the UNSC forces retreated from the crash site on February 2.[19] Following the battle, the crash site surrounding the ship was converted into a Banished outpost.[8] As a reward for Tremonius' victory, Escharum had the outpost named after Tremonius.[18] The Banished tossed most of the ship's supplies into the chasm, and deployed their prefabricated outpost structures around the far side of the broken UNSC vessel, including a heavily fortified landing platform.[20] Using a flame-bore,[21] they have also excavated new egress points below the mountain for access from one side of the crash site to the other.[20] In the months that followed, the Banished utilized Outpost Tremonius not only as a military base, but also as an excavation site for Forerunner artifacts, including the Harbinger's cylix.[22]

Three months later, circa May 28, 2560,[23] John-117 emerged from the underground section of the outpost. After eliminating Tremonius and the Banished forces occupying the outpost, the crash site was returned to UNSC control.[8]
