The symbol for Project GUNGNIR.

Project GUNGNIR was a top-secret UNSC program under the supervision of Section Three of the Office of Naval Intelligence. Section Three's then head Rear Admiral Michael Stanforth had some degree of involvement with the project. The program resulted in the creation of the Weapon/Anti-Vehicle Model 6 Grindell/Galilean Nonlinear Rifle, more commonly known as the Spartan Laser, alongside many supplementary armor systems, including the GUNGNIR knee guards, helmet and pauldrons. Some of these armor components, including the shoulders and knee guards, are utilized by the UNSC Army and the UNSC Marine Corps, and are also part of the MJOLNIR Mk. V[G] variant.

Trivia

• In Norse mythology, Gungnir ("swaying one") is Odin's magical spear, which is an infallibly accurate weapon. The symbol for Project GUNGNIR is also a version of the Norse Gungnir symbol. The symbol is located on the side of the Spartan Laser, among other places. The weapon's abbreviation, W/A M6 G/GNR, bears a notable resemblance to the name "Gungnir." Like the Spartan Laser, the Gungnir of mythology is an extremely accurate weapon.
