The Jovian Moons Campaign was a conflict that took place on the Jovian Moons between the United Nations and the Frieden movement in March-June 2160.[1][2]

History

The Jovian Moons Campaign began due to Jovian secessionist attacks on United Nations colonial advisers on the moon Io. This led to three months of fighting between United Nations and Jovian Frieden forces. Though this was not the first armed conflict in our Solar System, it was easily one of the bloodiest, and is generally considered to be the spark of increased friction and militarization that followed the end of the campaign.

The Jovian Moons Campaign escalated tensions on both the offworld colonies and Earth itself. The conflict strengthened the increasing anti-governmental and anti-corporate sentiments among the colonists, while Earth's national governments, many of whom sponsored their own distributed military forces as well as colonies within the system, began fighting proxy wars off-planet.[3] As these proxy wars continued, tensions on Earth mounted, leading to a number of armed conflicts on Earth itself, most prominently the Rainforest Wars.[2]
