Impulse drives are a form of sublight propulsion system used by the Forerunners and later by the Covenant.[1]
Forerunner monitors possess impulse drives for long-distance travel,[2] though they are notably slow; even the a journey as short as one from Installation 04 to Threshold would take hundreds of years with a monitor's impulse propulsion.[1] As such, their primary form of long-distance transit on their assigned installations is the local teleportation grid.
The Covenant use impulse drives as propulsion systems on their Type-31 Seraphs and Type-27 Banshee fighters.[3]
