The Gorgon-class heavy destroyer was a warship classification in the UNSC Navy. It was the first vessel within the UNSC Navy to be equipped with a Magnetic Accelerator Cannon, a weapon system that would later become the standard armament of most UNSC naval ships.[note 1]

Overview

The namesake vessel of the Gorgon class was commanded by then-Captain Preston Cole. It was used to engage the insurrectionist vessel Bellicose on three occasions.[1] The warship was capable of firing only three MAC rounds before needing to resort to other armaments.[2]

Trivia

In Greek mythology, the Gorgons were a group of female beings with hair made of living snakes. Anyone who met their gaze was said to turn into stone.

Note

  1. ^ Although the name the ship's class is not mentioned, the Template:UNSCship is stated to be the first of its class. Naval classifications take the name for the ship series after the name of the first ship, thus making ships built with the same design members of the Gorgon class.
