CPV-class heavy destroyer

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Template:Ship Class Infobox

The CPV-class heavy destroyer is a destroyer class in service with the Covenant Navy.[1][2]

Design

The design of the CPV-class heavy destroyer is unique among Covenant vessels. It features a roughly teardrop-shaped fore section that droops downward, forming a bulbous protrusion; the dorsal surface of this section contains a recessed area, which likely contains the bridge. The hull is much narrower amidships. Near the aft end, the hull splits into six sleek, winglike structures. The shortest pair face outward at a slightly upward angle, the mid-sized structures curve upward at an inward-facing angle, and the largest structures curve downward, also facing inward. The CPV features far more running lights than other Covenant vessels, many of which resemble Covenant glyphs.

Each of the largest wing structures contains at least two plasma torpedo turrets on its inner surface,[3] though the ship likely possesses more turrets elsewhere. An energy projector is mounted on the bottom of the forward "bulb",[4][5][6] similar to the CCS-class battlecruiser and the CAS-class assault carrier, which also possess energy projectors in this area. The ship is capable of deploying numerous dropships, Vampire fighters, and Banshee attack aircraft, as well as thousands of infantry and hundreds of ground vehicles.

Deployment history

Many CPV-class heavy destroyers were deployed during the Harvest Campaign, which lasted from 2526 to 2531. During the Covenant's counterattacks in the early years of the campaign, CPVs were used to glass areas that had been secured by the United Nations Space Command, eradicating most of the human presence on Harvest; this cycle continued until the planet's liberation in February 2531.[4] One such vessel was present during the Battle of the Flood-controlled Shield World, where it engaged the Template:UNSCship after a midair collision between the two ships; the destroyer dispatched several large boarding parties, supported by Banshees, Vampires, and plasma torpedo fire, in an effort to disable the human vessel, though the attack was repelled. UNSC Battle Group Sierra-3 destroyed a CPV-class destroyer at the Battle of 18 Scorpii in 2543.[7]
