M6 series

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

"The M6 has been in service for about a hundred and forty years… it’s amazing to think how little it has changed in all that time."
— Anonymous UNSC Defense Force serviceman

M6 is a series of short-barreled weapons produced by Misriah Armory.

Introduction

They have seen widespread distribution through the United Nations Space Command Defense Force as lighter firearms, although they are not seen as primary weapons because of their lighter penetrating power compared to larger weapons and smaller magazine capacity, and are mostly issued to officer and vehicle crews.

They have seen usage in the UNSC for almost 140 years[1], and have been used in almost every conflict since then.

Characteristics

The M6 series weapons are recoil-operated and magazine-fed, and typically fire 12.7mm x 30 projectile ammunition, and despite the large caliber, oftentimes "exotic" ammunition is not utilized. They are also remarkably large and overpowered to an extent, appearing to be rendolent of a cross between a pistol or a rifle in size. Despite being powerful, the M6 line of weaponry is durable, able to remain operational after Slipspace transitions and high-g aerial manuevers. However, its heavy weight limits its distribution amongst personnel, and the M6 weapons have a tendency to drop casings on the wielder's foot[2], leading some UNSC personnel to favor the M7/Caseless Submachine Gun, which operates on a caseless system.

They have remained remarkably unchanged during its decades of service, although there are a large number of variants, such as the A B, C, D, G, and J variants.

Conjecture

Template:Conjecturilization

It has been theorised that the A and B versions are smaller caliber than the C variants onwards. THis is because they are referred to being more comfotrable to fire, as a smaller round would create less kick back from the pistol and also it is noted to have been phased from the armed forces and only used by Civillian Secruity forces. In armed forces the greater sized ammunition would be greater for killing the enemy with raw fire power whereas the small caliber would be more useful for secruity forces that do not wish for over penetration from rounds or do not need the large amount of stopping power.

It has been theorised that while the pistols in Halo 1 and 3 use High Explosive rounds and the ones in Halo 2 used Armor Piercing, ammo no all three guns is exchangable as all are the same caliber and it has been remarked that the HE is the standard while other ammo types are used for certain missions.
