Headlong is a multiplayer map in Halo 2 that is set in the city of New Mombasa. This map is found mostly in Big Team Battle matchmaking playlists due to the size and number of vehicles, with Capture the Flag and Assault being the most common game types assigned. This map seems to be a port under construction. Some of the features are a broken bridge, a teleporter, two floating cranes, active camouflage, an overshield, and a large base under construction. The default vehicles for this map are two Warthogs (either a Gauss Warthog or a normal Warthog), two Ghosts, and a Scorpion Tank or Wraith.

Strategy

The obvious tactic for this map in slayer is to get to the high ground. Usually with a Sniper Rifle or battle rifle, and pick off the players below you though it is safe to say you wont be alone due to the fact that the map is only found in custom games and big team battle. There's no cover in the center of the map so it's better if you stay in the buildings or on the cat walks that link them together. The best combo for this map is a medium range and a short range weapon, for example Battle Rifle and a Shotgun the rifle being for open area encounters, and the Shotgun being for when you are inside the buildings.

A strategy for capture the flag. This is one of the more direct strategies but usually works, providing the defending team doesn't figure out what your tactic is. When you go to attack the flag base rather than making some elaborate route to attack the base get 2 or 3 special team mates to run through the bottom of their base and have the rest of the team go to the base through the top. The distractions from your other team mates created at the top of the base will give way for you and your other team mates to go up to the base with no problems. Any one person they run into could easily be overcome by the three men. They then grab the flag and rather than jumping down, run towards the air lift and take that route out. Have somebody ready with a warthog outside the sword building when the flag guy comes out he jumps in the warthog and goes to the base and there you have it. The beauty of this technique is that you are not going to be as predictable as others you go through the airlift. You do not jump down and struggle and go on in a continuous battle over the flag down there only to get it out of the base and get sniped and out BR'd. This is where most people either get the flag or lose it. However this tactic relies on a lot of good co-operation and communication between team-mates.

Trivia

  • If you can super jump onto the building behind the crane holding the piece of bridge, look at the glass. You can see the giant structure of New Mombasa shown in the Halo 2 demo in the beginning.

Glitches

  • There is a way to get on top of the map, and if you have many people, on top of the giant crane. Get in the Banshee, and have a player stand on the wing. Carefully fly towards the ring in front of the water. Turn left, and you'll see a building with a roof that leans in. Fly towards the building, until you hit an invisible wall. Carefully have the player jump towards the invisible wall while you are flying forward. If done correctly, he will go straight through the wall. Now, fly your Banshee towards the invisble wall while turning right. You will slowly move to the right, but then you'll shoot straight the wall. Set your banshee nearby one of the tall buildings, and jump up and climb to the top. If you bring a sniper rifle and a beam rifle, you can spend a long time shooting players, and if you are careful, players won't know you're up there. If you get many players to the top, you can jump on top of some and slowly climb up a skyscraper to the Giant Crane. This is an even better sniping spot, but chances are you'll get killed going up.
