The Monitors Of Halopedia

Good Morning ED:

Before You cry out in outrage and say "Oh ***k! Not another Usergroup!", Please Let me State my case in the following message. When I first joined Halopedia, I knew of four Usergroups, The CoH, The UNSCoH, The, FoH, and The PoH. Now there are Usergroups I do not even know about as each person now thinks that if it is not related to their current usergroup, they need a new one. For example the UNSCoH could have Easily created Multiplayer articles instead of creating the MoH or SoH. What I plan to to with the Monitors of Halopedia(THIS IS NOT THE FINAL NAME!) is have a set group of Individuals (such as You and RR, Esemono, GuestyPersony-Thingy, etc and anyone else who has skilled wiki knowlodge.)help answer questions, help new users, create userboxes, REGULATE the creation of articles or USERGROUPS, and basicly MONITOR Halopedia without it going Hay-wire. PLEASE keep in mind that I am Aware that administrator can easily do this without the creation of this usergroup. I thought how ever it could be more organized as The group could Have all those skilled in wiki smarts monitor every aspect of Halopedia and at the same time be a FAQ page for those who a new Usergroup, etc. I have a readout below of what I plan it to be below, IF it is acceptable to carry out later. We need to control our users a little better, not like communists, but enought so that we have a safe, organized, and fun enviroment!. We don't need a mess!

The Monitors of Halopedia(name pending)

  • A set group of Members
  • Cannot join, must be selected (to avoid EVERYONE joining, as that defeats the purpose of a few "monitors")
  • Tasks are those which would keep Halopedia "clean" and help answe general questions
  • Keep in mind this is not Final, I am just listing whats coming into my head.

Anyways, please consider my request, as I wish To become a major contrabution to Halopedia, and this is one wway I thought I could help!

Hmm. See what the other admins think about this. --ED(talk)(gaming) 16:37, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

problem...

Dear ED,

GPT has left Halopedia, he's blocked himself, and Sannse has removed his administrator access as per his request.

Cheers,

RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team Fleet Admiral.jpg TALKSPEAK 22:36, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

That's a rather large problem. Exactly why did this happen? --ED(talk)(gaming) 23:21, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Umm...well, I know GPT as a RL friend...and he's going through really hard times...I don't think I'm willing to disclose any more information except that he did it of his own volition. Cheers, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team Fleet Admiral.jpg TALKSPEAK 23:25, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Hah hah fine. Well, do you know if it is a spur of the moment thing and he just needs time to cool down, or should we prepare to replace him at his positions? --ED(talk)(gaming) 23:27, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
At first, I thought he was 50% serious and 50% just frustrated. Now, I think he's 75% serious and 25% spur-of-the-moment...he hasn't answered two of my phone calls to him...furthermore, do you want to discuss this on IRC? Please message me if you feel like it. ;-) Cheers, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team Fleet Admiral.jpg TALKSPEAK 00:47, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

welcome/IP invite

Hey ED,

I noticed you've used the welcome template on IP talk pages. I thought we were going with {{IP invite}} instead.

-- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 03:49, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Ah, so I did...it wasn't intentional, I usually do use the IP invite, I must not have been paying attention...--ED(talk)(gaming) 04:02, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
No problem. I understand there are more important concerns at the moment. -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 07:46, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

wazz archivahs?

Dear ED,

We definately have been recently having Halopedia Warz, although it gets monotonous and tedious to record, because with all due humbleness...GPT and I rox. ;-) We recently played TheObviousOne and CommanderTony and won 25-5...yeah...;-)...but definately, when we have our next matches tommorrow or Friday evening, I'll make a note to record them.

May I ask what for, sir? ;-)

Replied your email. Affirmative on your idea...it's very kewl...I'll get it rollin' ASAP. BTW, do you want to join the UNSCOH? I'd really get some of the other users excited, and of course, I'd immediately offer you rank of Major from Private (how many pay grades did you skip? ;D)...Major is the highest non-elected rank in the UNSCOH. ;-) Cheers, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team Fleet Admiral.jpg TALKSPEAK 04:19, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Heh, sure, I'll join. That's a good pay grade. So, where's my company of troops? hah hah. --ED(talk)(gaming) 04:24, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

p.s. - Thank you for the HTML that made that wonderful calligraphy. ;-) Furthermore...company of troops? I thought that majors are the XOs of battalions. ;-) Where the hell are our 1,000 subordinates?! ;-)

Why thanks, I thought I'd fancy up the process of awarding stuff. As for Majors, they command smaller Batallions, but larger ones usually fall under a Lieutenant Colonel or a Colonel...My Army ROTC unit is Battalion sized and led by a cadet colonel. --ED(talk)(gaming) 04:32, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Useless usergroups

I believe that along with the BoH, the MoH, and the RoH are in need to deletion. We just don't need that many usergroups. The four main ones are the only important ones. These are highly useless. And I believe that we might want to have a vote over it or you guys could just delete them.--H*bad (talk) 20:58, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

The community needs to come to some form of agreement on what needs to be done about it. --ED(talk)(gaming) 21:03, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
Okay, so I created a forum on it. Forum:Some usergroups unneeded?--H*bad (talk) 21:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

The Tech officer pages

While going through the Category:Merge page, I came across those pages. Now, I don't believe that they should be merged with the Master Chief Petty officer, I think they should become one article. Now, you may be asking yourself, why I am posting this on your talk page and not those talk pages, it's because you and me are the only ones that are seeming to notice the page. So I think that they should be all put into a page called something like "Tech". What is your suggestion?--H*bad (talk) 04:04, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

problem being that, if the UNSC navy works anything like the US navy (the similarities are striking) there would be dozens, if not hundreds of pages like that. Every job in the navy has its own set of rank titles. What exactly is the Tech officer a "tech" of? for example, the US navy has ranks for Fire control techs, sonar techs, submarine navigation techs, and so on. "Tech" is a very ambiguous term. And in the end, there is no difference between a Tech officer 1st class and a Petty Officer 1st class. --ED(talk)(gaming) 04:35, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I guess that makes sense. Okay well, I suppose that those pages should be merged then.--H*bad (talk) 04:52, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

hbad

You may want hbad. He is currently vandalizing the wiki.--H*bad (talk) 04:44, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

I got him. --ED(talk)(gaming) 04:50, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Yep. So, why aren't you around the Halo Fanon Wiki anymore?--H*bad (talk) 04:53, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Ah. Its my story see. I had an idea where to go with it and I sort of indefinately postponed it because I hit a wall and I've been having trouble getting good images for the story...that and I'm trying to do the admin duties on the 2 wikis where I'm an admin while working at my job 20-30 hours a week, in addition to other obligations, I'm rather pressed for time lately. But I would like to complete that story, writing a story on a wiki is really very fun. --ED(talk)(gaming) 04:56, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
I see. Well if you guys were to have another admin....hint hint.(Kidding.) Anyways, I am sorry to hear about that. No really. I hate it when that happens, writers block....very bad. I get it all the time it would seem.--H*bad (talk) 05:00, 22 June 2007 (UTC)
Problem for me is that theres really no structure to the story and I can take it really wherever I want...so I have a lot of ideas that I don't really know which I like best. It always happens to me when writing stories, which is why I find journalistic writing much easier...less creativity, more substance. --ED(talk)(gaming) 05:03, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey ED, I may be mistaken here but I think impersonation accounts such as this one can be blocked indefinitely. -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 13:45, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

We just may have to do that...--ED(talk)(gaming) 22:05, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Good work. When someone creates an account similar to an existing users', you know no goods going to come from them. -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 01:15, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, we had a crisis on Gears of War Wikia, where I administrate. One of our admins was inactive, and de-sysoped. A sockpuppet with an extremely similar name came and said that he was that ex-admin and promised to edit a lot in exchange for administratorship again...a bureaucrat admin-ed him, and the sockpuppet banned all the admins...heh. ;-) That wasn't fun to resolve. ;-) Cheers, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team Fleet Admiral.jpg TALKSPEAK 01:21, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Problem here being names common to popular culture, especiall Halo culture. There have been names extremely similar to Caboose's in the past, and they turned out to be good users who liked Red vs Blue and also happened to have Caboose at their favorite character. I give them the chance to mess up first...heh but I would never give that chance to anyone with admin privledges, not gonna lie...--ED(talk)(gaming) 03:18, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, that was a whole problem. On GOW Wiki, since I was an admin, I was able to unban myself. ;-) Could you imagine that kind of thing? When I first heard of the concept, I scoffed, but when the time came, it 'twas useful. Then, I cried at #wikia and got the imposter banned. ;-) Cheers, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team Fleet Admiral.jpg TALKSPEAK 03:32, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Deletion

Can you please delete these candidates for deletion. They are all clear for that:

1)M7/Caseless Sub Machine Gun 2)Image:800px-ODST1 u.jpg (duplicate, no more pages link to it) 3)Image:Elite With Particle Beam Rifle.jpg (duplicate, no more pages link to it) 4)Image:Energysword.jpg (duplicate, no more pages link to it) 5)Image:Highground2.jpg (duplicate, no more pages link to it) 6)Image:Snowbound 2.jpg (duplicate, no more pages link to it) 7)Image:Spectra.jpg (duplicate, no more pages link to it) 8)Image:Phile.jpg (the user doesn't want it anymore)

Please delete them. The deletions page would be far cleaner then. Thanks. I've sent this to other Admins too. Afraid that they would be too busy.

Usergroups

Dear ED,

I think Halopedia needs to develop an official policy regarding user groups. At this point, the fate of the new groups is unclear, but one thing is very clear: it has been a damn hassle trying to sort things out with them.

I think we need to develop a policy that dictates any proposed groups need to pass an RfA type situation. That way, the community can decide if we need a new group, and not have to hurt any feelings or get into any confrontations with the members of new groups.

So, whether or not these new groups get torched or not, we need to have a plan for any more that might be created.

Like a "RfU" page? I'll confer with the other admins, that is surely a good idea. --ED(talk)(gaming) 03:44, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, I thought so. I don't think there'd be any opposition to the idea, but do confer, and get back to me. If you like I can help come up with some strategies for it, although it would be pretty straightforward. -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 03:51, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Help!

ED. Man, i need help. Two new users, Collins, and Soulguard may be potential vandals. I have a Fanfic Contest page, and I checked it today? COMPLETELY GONE. I refilled as much as I could, but the users who entered the contest have all been erased. Help. Please?

Proper the BURNiNATOR!!!!! [Squeadlies vs. Meadlies!!!] 00:23, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

They appear to be new users. You can revert the page to before they edited it, of course, but the edits by Collins didn't appear intentional, and Soulguard only made one edit that didn't do any damage. --ED(talk)(gaming) 03:47, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
I thought all fan fiction stuff was dealt with at Halo Fanon. Maybe the users thought they were doing the right thing... -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 03:49, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, from the looks of it, Collins tried to sign himself up and accidently erased some other text on the page, which is a common mistake. But seeing as they were his only edits, he may have changed his mind about participating altogether. --ED(talk)(gaming) 03:51, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Forerunner

If you check the history for the BC/BCE debate forum, you'll see that Forerunner actually removed a comment--my comment--and in a very uncivil manner, while completely disregarding many other comments. Firstly, this is removing someone else's comment, which is not allowed, and secondly, I see this as a personal attack, which is just wrong. I blocked him for a week because of this, but he has complained to Angela, so, since you are the most active neutral administrator when it comes to speaking with Forerunner, I would like your opinion on how long he should or should not be blocked. Thanks. güéߣ¥-πéҐøñ¥-ħîИg¥ 07:43, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Well, in circumstances like this, where an active user suddnely makes a major infraction of the rules, I usually speak to them first about it and try to mediate a solution BEFORE blocking. Because Blocking should always be the last resort. --ED(talk)(gaming) 14:23, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Definately. While Forerunner has gotten in arguements with me in the past, I personally think that a block is extremely severe and antagonistic. I know on other Wikias, there's normally discussion first about blocking such a veteran user, and maximum, just a slap on the wrist by a one-hour block. Cheers, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team Fleet Admiral.jpg TALKSPEAK 14:40, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

"Tech" ranks

Hey ED,

Just wondering whether or not you think these inclusions to the petty officer pages are really needed. I know that they've been stated as ranks in the novels, but you and I both know that in the US Navy the rating is substituted for the rank.

I only bring it up because there could potentially be hundreds of other ratings, which would clutter the page. I think it would be more appropriate to state an explanation, and then use a dot-point list of the known ratings. What do you think?

Realistically, a lot of the information is just speculation, even if it does seem to fit.

-- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 15:19, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Very much agreed, as I said to H*Bad a few days ago above. I don't think they are needed at all, and the redirect to the Petty Officer ranks was fine with me. -ED(talk)(gaming) 16:08, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Categorization

I noticed that on the Onan page, you used the syntax [[Category: UNSC]], rather than [[Category:UNSC]] I know it doesn't really make a difference, but I'm weird and obsess about it, and I would prefer if you didn't put a space there, so it's the same as with the actual category, since there's never a space after the prefix.
