In 1342, the Covenant discovered the Kig-Yar. Although the Kig-Yar initially attempted to resist absorption into the alliance, they quickly recognized that they were facing a superior force and submitted, taking on the role of explorers and traders (and often thieves and smugglers). The Kig-Yar were also motivated by the potential trade and wealth the Covenant could provide.[1]
