A Firebase is an encampment set up by Marines in combat zones or other locations that are otherwise hostile. Firebases are normally lettered according the Phonetic Alphabet (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta...). In a situation where there are multiple firebases, the one with the command structure is called the "HQ" (Head Quarters).

The Firebase appears as a buildable structure in Halo Wars.

Overview

The UNSC Firebase combines the needs of a tactical communications command center and expansion into both a barracks and a production facility capable of assembling combat vehicles. The Firebase itself is a variant of the old colony starter units constructed out of polycrete and powered by a small hydrogen reactor. Because gaining a foothold quickly was key to fighting insurrections throughout the colonies, ships can directly deploy the entire assembly unit of a Firebase, making it immediately useful. This ability proved invaluable in the ongoing war with the Covenant and was often considered a key advantage of the UNSC on the ground.[1]

In addition, Firebases are capable of producing unarmed Warthogs, their lack of armament giving them extra speed.[1] and the players unique unit.

UNSC Firebases usually contains a barracks and headquarters. These bases usually consist of pre-fabricated structures, such as Cubicles, that are deployed on the battlefield along with ground forces. Firebases act as strong points and bases of operations for Marines during a ground engagement.

The exact process of establishing a UNSC process on a planet is directly tied to an orbital presence. The Spirit of Fire transports the Firebase from orbit using the UNSC Heavy Dropship to bring it in two parts. From here it has 7 sockets for base expansion, built on site.

They appear to have room for expansion, such as extra buildings, research facilities, production facilities, training facilities and defensive buildings.

In Halo Wars, the firebase also has the ability to Self Destruct, instantly destroying the base and freeing the socket up for an ally, lock garrisoning in all newly created units and place a rally point resulting in A.I. units to move to this point upon the completion of their training.

The Covenant possesses a döppelganger to the Firebase, being the Covenant Firebase. Its basicly a big underground base
