First introduced in Halo Infinite, weapon classes are labels applied to weapons which concisely describe their functionality, to help players more easily understand how to use them. When standing near a dropped weapon or weapon pad for an extended time, the weapon's class alongside its firing mode and effective range will appear in text beneath the pickup prompt.

Assault rifles are two-handed rifles effective at close and medium ranges:
