Halo 3: ODST (formerly known as Halo 3: Recon) was released in 2009 for the XBox 360. This game was developed by Bungie. People owning this game were sent an XBox Live invitation to play the Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta. This game also had a series of comics leading up to the game's release named Helljumper.

This game focuses on the endeavors of several Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, who were dropped into the city of New Mombasa during the Battle of Mombasa. The squad becomes seperated and must now find each other while fighting through hordes of Covenant.

Storyline

{{{1}}}

The year is 2552.

Humanity is at war with the alien alliance known as "The Covenant".

We are losing.

The Covenant have burned our worlds, killing billions in their genocidal campaign.

Earth is our last bastion - a carefully guarded secret.

But not anymore.

A Covenant carrier has breached Earth's defenses and attacked the African mega-city, "New Mombasa".

Initial reports confirm major damage and heavy civilian casualties.

Now military leaders of the "United Nations Space Command" have prepared their response...

Teams of highly-trained "Orbital Drop Shock Troopers" are ready to assault the carrier from Navy ships in low orbit.

This is a near-suicidal mission.

But these troopers are the best of the best.

And saving New Mombasa could be the most important mission of the war...

Prepare to Drop

Dare's Shock Trooper Squad is getting ready to be sent into battle inside the Prophet of Regret's Assault Carrier. The squad consists of Corporal Taylor "Dutch" Miles, Lance Corporal Kojo "Romeo" Agu, Private First Class Micheal "Mickey" Crespo, Lance Corporal "Rookie", Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck, and Captain Veronica Dare. After they are dropped out of the ship via the SOEIV "drop pod"s, the Prophet of Regret's Assualt Carrier enters Slipspace, causing the team's Drop Pods to become unable to control due to the Electro-Magnetic Pulse that was emitted from the Slipspace rupture, thus sending the team's drop pods into a free fall, along with Mickey's drop pod to crash into The Rookie's.

Tayari Plaza

Back down on the ground, Dare manages to contact Buck on the ground from his drop pod. Buck is able to open his drop pod and get out, but Dare's drop pod is broken and cannot open. Upon hearing this, Buck makes his way toward her drop pod to save her, making his way through various Covenant as he goes, but once he arrives at Dare's drop pod, Dare is nowhere to be found, but instead Buck is met by a Huragok holding Dare's Recon Helmet. Mistaking the Huragok to be hostile, Buck backs away, and Romeo kills it with his sniper rifle. After reuniting with Romeo, Buck goes off to find the rest of the members of the squad.
