Summary

The Wraith mortar tank is the Covenant's main assault vehicle for ground engagements. It fires very large blots of plasma encased in a magnetic field up into the air. These bolts then rain down on enemy troops with tremendous force. Because the Wraith fires in an arc, rather than line-of-sight, this vehicle's attacks are very dangerous. The mortar can bypass most defenses that its enemies have established. It is equipped with anti-gravity plates underneath its mainframe allowing it to hover over any anti-vehicle mines that have been placed in its way. The pilot is protected from all small-arms fire and the vehicle can only be incapacitated by heavy weapons or artillery.

The Wraith's engines can be pushed to provide an excellent boost in speed, but at the cost of manueverability and weapon power. Unlike other boost-capable Covenant vehicles, the boost for the Wraith is only temporary.

Wraiths are also equipped with twin plasma turrets for close-range combat, but the player, regardless of which character he is using, cannot use them. However, the AI opposition can and will use them against opponents.

In multiplayer maps where the Wraith appears by default, it's use can be desicive in the game. On maps like Terminal and Waterworks players are able to rack up Running Riots and rampages with ease by using them.

It is generally a reasonable stratergy (with a very high sucsess rate) to guard the Wraith spawn, even if the Wraith won't appear for a while. This works particularly well on Terminal, where use of the Wraith is well known for epic come backs. It is not unheard of for teams to come back from up to 30 kills down in a Team Slayer game by using the wraith.
